JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The holder of this position coordinates the processing of loan transactions for Capital Markets Department loans including participations purchased, participations sold, ensuring accurate record keeping in accordance with GAAP and as determined by accounting guidelines; performs data input into the loan accounting system; performs other administrative and general accounting activities; provides administrative and technical support to Capital Markets Department and the Association. This position also assists with reporting requirements, audit requirements, and performs various other functions in the Capital Markets accounting area.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Process all Capital Markets Department originated, purchased and sold loan transaction notices for both COAL and ACBS ensuring accuracy and timely posting on a daily basis.
  • Reviews members' loan account for each receipt, determines appropriate transactions for moneys received, and posts payments through the appropriate systems.
  • Process all new loans, note modifications, renewals and restructures, ensuring all transactions have processed correctly, all accounts are coded properly, and CIF message trailers are updated.
  • Handles all maintenance and correction transactions as applicable.
  • Knowledgeable of all procedure manuals and changes in policy and procedures in order to serve as consultant/advisor for loan assistants.
  • Verifies that expenses are appropriately allocated and assessed to applicable loans and documentation is placed in appropriate subsidiary files.
  • Review daily reports for branch 084, including maintenance that may be required upon review of reports.
  • Prepares and submits monthly/quarterly/year-end reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintains subsidiary ledgers for select asset and liability accounts.
  • Reconciles 299 suspense accounts for the Capital Markets Department, and applicable liability accounts daily, documenting all activity and balancing to general ledger.
  • Monitors activity in each account ensuring stale items clear on a timely basis.
  • Required to complete training materials assigned by the association in a timely manner; displays acceptable competency results; applies new skills to work processes; completes personal development activities independent of those assigned by the Association.
  • Required to review all manual updates and changes in policy and procedures.
  • Required to maintain an expected level of knowledge necessary to perform job functions.
  • Responsible for providing quality and efficient customer service (internal and external) on a daily basis.
  • Maintains the highest quality of customer service during calls. Deal tactfully to resolve customer complaints and inquiries, and follow the appropriate company standards/procedures.
Required Education/Experience
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 1-3 years of accounting and/or accounting systems experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting practices).
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge of the ACBS and COAL Accounting Manual and the First South Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Computer literacy including spreadsheets, word processing, and database management.
  • Possess sufficient communication skills, both written and oral, to represent the Association in a professional manner.
  • Ability to initiate, organize and prioritize work required.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Problem solving and decision making abilities.
  • Functions under managerial direction.
  • Handles complex projects.
  • Requires evaluative and analytical judgments on a regular basis.
