Alliant Energy has an outstanding opportunity for an Accountant I to join our Property Accounting department to help manage our assets. This position is flexible and can report out of either Madison, WI or our Cedar Rapids, IA office. In this position you will perform routine accounting work requiring basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and assists in the preparation of financial and statistical reports including financial statements and related notes for regulatory agencies, management, and others.

We are seeking someone that is excited to assist with transformation of our systems and processes, is open to change, and maintains positivity in the face of challenges. You must be detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Responsibilities
  • Using established procedures and methodologies develops accounting schedules, analyzes account balances, and analyzes and maintains accounting records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Under close supervision, analyzes and reviews variances in financial results from budget and prior periods.
  • Following standard practices and procedures prepares source input, parameter tables, and other details of the financial accounting system, financial reports and other accounting related reports; maintains a solid understanding of various network software and IT platforms.
  • Applies some judgment and discretion when making recommendations for accounting adjustments, procedural changes and compliance with company procedures and various federal, state and local regulations in all areas.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the general ledger, preparation of financial statements and related reports/analyses and other accounting-related duties of the parent company, utility companies, SERVCO and non-regulated businesses.
  • Research issues related to application of generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory accounting requirements as applied to presentation of financial information or other assigned areas of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Knowledge of common accounting software applications preferred.
  • Proven effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Works in a diverse and inclusive environment.
