Job Summary

Indiana University's Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science Center (CNS) is looking for a full-time software developer to become an integral member of a professional development team. This position's contributions will directly impact the advancement of visualizations, datasets, tools, and services in the study of scholarly, social, biomedical, and other networks. The candidate's skills will implement the next generation of visualizations and the tech to run them.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Advances research on the structure and evolution of science and technology, and develops innovative ways to communicate results via static and interactive maps of science.
  • Gathers and refines requirements for a limited number of projects.
  • Participates in code reviews for a limited number of projects.
  • Leads development sprints.
  • Helps train junior programmers and graduate students.
  • Leads an Agile development team.
  • Defines direction, software architecture, and strategy in close collaboration with leadership for a limited number of projects.
  • Provides project management for grant funded biological atlasing and data visualization projects.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced design and development for new and existing applications (web, mobile, etc.) in support of business initiatives/operational needs.
  • Consults with stakeholders to review existing applications and advise on strategic IT solution decisions; provides advanced analysis of business needs and requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints; develops new functionality and/or codes necessary changes/updates/fixes.
  • Provides advanced technical support and serves as a first level of escalation for the maintenance and upgrade of applications, including packaging and deployment of releases.
  • Collaborates with team leaders, functional clients, and other technical teams on the planning, implementation, and support of new applications; ensures optimum functionality, performance, accessibility, scalability, and security of new and existing applications.
  • Ensures that all protocols used in the development and maintenance of applications are up to date and compliant with university policies and standards; may contribute on committees and communities of practice to share and improve application development best practices across the university.
  • Makes recommendations to improve, as well as implements, testing, quality assurance, and documentation protocols and procedures for various applications; fixes complex bugs and resolves issues accordingly.
  • Provides advanced research/analysis and stays up-to-date on new industry development standards, emerging technology, UX/UI design/philosophy, and accessibility standards.
  • May serve as a project leader; often provides guidance to junior peers.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$67,000 - $88,000 a year - Salary range based on Career Level/Skill Level of the final candidate
