The Assistant/Associate Director of Sports Medicine will lead, plan and coordinate all aspects of Sports Medicine for Intercollegiate Athletics including; organization and administration of Sports Medicine services, coordination of Athletic Training staffing assignments and schedules, medical clearance of athletes in  coordination with the Team Physician,  provide athletic training services in support of intercollegiate athletics programs as assigned, and collaborate with Hammond Health Center staff for all aspects of medical needs of student-athletes.

The Assistant/Associate Director of Sports Medicine is expected to work with Clinical Faculty/Athletic Trainers in the Athletic Training Education Program and other staff athletic trainers to provide athletic training services to intercollegiate athletics. Develop and administer injury prevention, evaluate injuries, and develop treatment plans and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes.  Staff the AT clinics, attend home practices and games for assigned sports teams; post-season travel with assigned teams is required and regular season travel will be determined by sport assignment.

 Position/Job Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the Sports Medicine program for intercollegiate athletics.
  2. Provide athletic training services, in cooperation with the head team physician to include evaluating, managing, treating, and rehabilitating athletic injuries as needed or prescribed.
  3. Staff the Hill Center Athletic Training Clinic and/or A&E Center Clinic and attend home practices and games for assigned sports teams to evaluate and treat injuries or potential injuries; provide prompt, accurate triage. Post-season travel with assigned teams is required and regular season travel will be determined by sport assignment.
  4. Scheduling and coordination of athletic training coverage of practices and home contests.
  5. Serve as a preceptor to Pre AT and graduate students in the clinical education portion of the Athletic Training Education Program.
  6. Coordinate and perform mandatory baseline concussion testing for incoming students in assigned sports.
  7. Attend introductory team meetings and present athletic training information for assigned sports.
  8. Attend Athletic Department Meetings to address any sports medicine related issues.
  9. Plan and participate in all pre-participation sport screenings and the medical clearance process.
  10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records on injured athletes. 
  11. Collaborate with Director of Sports Performance (S&C)
  12. Represent Athletic Training and serve as consultant to coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment; assist with prevention of injuries including education for athletes, identifying factors that put athletes "at risk", correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing.
  13. Serve as liaison with parents, sports medicine physicians, health center staff, athletic trainers, and coaches in determining the best treatment options for the patient. Assist the team physician in determining if a player may return to competition. 
  14. Serve as host athletic trainer for league, regional and national championships competitions held at Ithaca College.
  15. Prepare monthly injury listing and forward it to the Office of Risk Management.

Required Experience:

  • Master's degree in athletic training, exercise science, nutrition, sports management, or related field required.                               
  • 5 - 7 years of experience at the collegiate level as an AT with demonstrated knowledge and ability in program administration; Experience at the Division III level is preferred.
  • BOC Certification and Membership in the NATA (National Athletic Trainer's Association) and eligible for NYS licensure required.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Experience in planning and executing Athletic Training services for competitive athletics teams.
  • Ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment.

  • Extensive knowledge of various word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, including electronic medical record (EMR) applications.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail are required.

Hiring Range:
