Assistant/Associate Professor: Agricultural Economics

Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

The Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics (ACE) seeks to fill a tenure track research/teaching position for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Agricultural Economics.

Applicants will develop a nationally or internationally recognized research program in support of the University's land grant mission. The program should focus on the modern management decisions facing agricultural producers - including emerging technologies, environmental factors, and conservation efforts - and how they can benefit Illinois and global stakeholders participating across the food supply chain. The incumbent will interact with, teach, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the Department's concentrations focused on agriculture, environmental economics, and/or policy.

Responsibilities: The person filling this position will be expected to: (1) develop or maintain (depending on rank) a nationally-prominent research program by publishing in leading peer-reviewed scholarly journals, communicating results to stakeholders, and seeking external support; (2) contribute to the Department's academic programs through teaching, typically two courses per year, and graduate student supervision and mentoring; and (3) provide academic leadership and service, broadly defined and commensurate with rank.

ACE, the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES), and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) provide a rich environment for collaborative research and outreach, and a commitment to achieving excellence through diversity and inclusion. Our vibrant research community includes multiple research centers such as the Center for Digital Agriculture (CDA), the Center for the Economics of Sustainability (CEOS), the Center for Climate, Regional, Environmental And Trade Economics (CREATE), the Office for Futures and Options Research (OFOR), the Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Environment (ISEE), and the Center for Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS); opportunities for engagement with faculty from other departments in the College and Campus, and with stakeholders and policy makers through the Department and College extension efforts including the farmdoc project, Gardner Agriculture Policy Program, and partners such as the Illinois Farm Business Farm Management Association (FBFM); resources for seeking external funding to support research efforts; and access to world-class computational resources through the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

Qualifications: All candidates must have a Ph.D. in agricultural/applied economics, economics, or related field. Candidates to be hired at the Associate Professor level must have a record that shows real promise of becoming a leader in research, teaching, and service, with a high demonstrated likelihood of sustaining contributions to the field and to the department.

Salary and Appointment: Competitive, based on qualifications and rank, 9-month academic year, tenured position. The initial appointment is expected to be 50% research, 40% teaching, 10% academic leadership/service.

Start Date: The anticipated starting date for the position is August 16, 2024.

Application: To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by November 17, 2023, but applications will be accepted until a candidate for hire is identified. Interviews may begin before the closing date; however, no offers will be extended until after that date. To apply, please create a candidate profile at http://jobs.illinois.edu and upload a brief cover letter, a CV, a sample of written work (job market, working, or published paper), a research statement, a teaching statement, a statement describing the candidate's commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusive environments, and names and contact information for three references.
