Position Description

The Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University (MBKU) is seeking outstanding individuals who can contribute to our strong teaching, clinical, and research programs. A diverse range of opportunities exist within our Doctor of Optometry and MS in Vision Science programs for individuals with a strong desire to educate the next generation of clinicians/scientists in an inter-professional setting, to collaborate and serve with respected colleagues, and to broaden the College's abilities and reputation.

A full-time faculty position is open for a promising assistant professor who has expertise in pediatric optometry and vision therapy. The position reports to the Dean of optometry.

Faculty Responsibilities

Each faculty member is expected to participate actively in college life through their assigned responsibilities and by their individual actions to enhance ethics, standards, and service to others within the academic community. Faculty responsibilities may include teaching, patient care and supervision, student advising, faculty mentoring, research and scholarship, participation in governance, service to the institution, community and professional service, and administrative duties.

Successful applicants will join a diverse and dynamic faculty who are committed to the highest standards of clinical training and research as well as service to the profession and the community.

Qualifications

  • A Doctor of Optometry degree from an ACOE accredited institution
  • Be eligible for licensure with diagnostic, therapeutic topical and non-topical pharmaceutical agents in California.
  • Be eligible for credentialing and privileging in compliance with Southern California College of Optometry standards.
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency in Pediatric Optometry or Vision Therapy and/or gained years of clinical experience within these areas of optometry.

Skills

  • Be able to manage pediatric patients, including those with neurodevelopmental disorders and visual impairments.
  • Be able to manage patients with binocular vision disorders, visual information processing disorders, strabismus, and amblyopia.
  • Have experience in teaching, clinical practice, and scholarship at a level appropriate for appointment.
  • Have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commit to excellence in optometric education and fostering an equitable and inclusive learning and working environment.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct, interpersonal and leadership skills.
