This position is located in Ogden, Utah.

The Role:

Research and Development oriented role emphasizing process improvement and automation to explore integration of existing, equipment, and new technology into products for premium customer solutions. Designs and develops new products or performs major re-design of existing products to update specifications or value. Reviews and ensures inputs are adequate and accurate and effectively evaluate and plan for all necessary work that is required. Responsible to manage projects and collaborate with appropriate teams to accomplish the work through to a successful conclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify new materials, methods, or other technologies to improve products for customer applications.
  • Design and implement new equipment and specialized tooling while utilizing automation where possible.
  • Manages projects from concept through design and verification and into product realization, coordinates with other functional departments for successful integration of the product design.
  • Develops and verifies new designs, processes, and materials. Responsible for the preparation of drawings, specifications, sequences, and other related engineering documentation.
  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs and conducts tests and/or witnesses tests as needed to support the validation/certification of products or solutions.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering software and equipment.
  • Supports training of other functions (Engineering, Operations and Sales) to ensure project successful implementation.
  • Participate in and develop laboratory experimentation on new technology discoveries.
  • Be open to a multi-disciplinary role to participate in group R&D discussions in problem solving.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline from a four-year college or university. Preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Automation Engineering.
  • 1+ years of related experience and/or training in a related field
  • Ability to manage and collaborate with a team to work on multiple projects at a time.
  • Familiar with Modeling (3D) software, Firmware or Software as appropriate to the position. Understanding of analytical tools (such as FEA) a bonus.
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes such as industrial equipment manufacturing, welding technology, control systems, materials processing, and manufacturing methods.
  • Solid grasp of engineering principles in heat transfer, thermodynamics, material properties. Understanding of PLCs, manufacturing improvements, and automation would be a bonus.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a clear, concise, and complete manner, and respond to questions from managers, customers, and other cross functional teams.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding of needs and solutions, and to develop effective plans.
