Summary of the group:

The Bioassay Group develops and delivers fit-for-purpose, robust, and technologically advanced biological assays to progress pipeline products from research to commercial. We support end-to-end biological and bioanalytical characterization of AstraZeneca pipeline assets including mAbs, bispecifics, novel molecules, ADCs, oncolytic viruses and vaccines. We also support regulatory filings from IND to BLA and beyond.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will play a key role in the development, optimization and qualification of a wide variety of bioassays to support lot release, stability testing and characterization of therapeutic biologics such as antibodies, fusion proteins, vaccines, gene and cellular therapeutics.
  • The candidate will identify, evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies to improve the efficiency of in-process, release, and characterization bioactivity testing.
  • The candidate will author and review documents including development reports, SOPs, assay transfer plan/protocols/reports, CMC sections of regulatory filings (IND, IMPD, BLA, etc.), and scientific journal publications.
  • The candidate will work in a team setting and to interface with different research and development departments, and present their work both internally and to external partner organizations


Education & Experience Requirements:

Associate Scientist I: BS with a minimum of 5+ years relevant experience or MS with a minimum of 2+ years relevant experience

Associate Scientist II: BS with 8+ years of relevant experience or MS with 5+ years of relevant experience

Required Skills:

Candidates must have a thorough understanding of cell culture and hands-on experience with in vitro bioassay techniques and their applications in assessing cellular signaling, receptor binding, cytokine secretion, cell proliferation, cytotoxicity, as well as antibody effector function. They must also have good time management and organizational skills The ability to work in a fast-paced team-centered environment with outstanding multi-tasking skills is a must.

Desired Skills:

Cellular/molecular biology, immunology or virology expertise is preferred. Experience with exogenous expression of cell surface receptor, single cell cloning and transcriptional regulation is a plus. GMP experience is a plus.
