Responsibilities

The incumbent in this key position will evaluate building systems operation and performance and improve upon them under the direction of a Professional Engineer or Network Specialist.

  • Prepares specifications and engineering drawings and sketches related to automation system improvements. Performs engineering studies used for optimization and design purposes. Provides graphical interfaces to the campus BAS system used to monitor all systems remotely. Will focus on corrective action plans for systems that are functioning as designed, but can be improved to meet the University's needs.
  • Reviews equipment submittals for construction projects and equipment replacement projects to ensure conformance with campus design, reliability, and energy standards.
  • Participates in the development, analysis and evaluation of the technology management plan for the University's Building Automation System (BAS) network. The technology management plan includes, but is not limited to, developing the campus wide migration plan to Siemens Desigo CC building management software platform; developing and maintaining network system standards for new designs, enhanced graphics, local alarms, remote notification alarming (RENO), fault diagnostics and detection (FDD) and hardware upgrades including field panels, instrumentation devices, metering equipment and servers.
  • Coordinates engineering activities with the campus project managers to ensure that systems are installed correctly and function properly. Provide functional testing and other commissioning activities for projects that do not have 3rd party commissioning. Works with engineers, architects, and project managers to assure that each completed project has a set of as built drawings that accurately reflect changes.
  • Updates the emergency response plan for critical campus buildings. Maintains relationships with builiding facility managers to ensure that all research repairs and projects are coordinated with Facilities Maintenance and Utilities efforts. Will coordinate with engineers, specialists, and or other resources to ensure that complex building systems are functioning properly. Operates University vehicles as required.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; or a high school diploma/equivalency and four years of experience.

(Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)

A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Engineering Degree (mechanical, chemical).
  • 0-2 years experience in engineering field or building automation and controls.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer software and operating systems.
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methodology in designing, estimating, planning, and inspecting construction projects and managing project schedules.
  • Knowledge of processes, procedures, and methods used in master planning.
