Job Summary/Basic Function:
Works with management team to identify, develop and implement strategic plans to achieve goals, including staffing, operational and financial analysis, reporting and planning.
Department Overview:
The Division of Research and Economic Development (DRED) is committed to cultivating an environment where education through research, scholarly endeavor and creative activity thrives. We provide comprehensive support for faculty, staff and student research and creative activity, guide research strategic directions, manage the university's intellectual property portfolio, facilitate relationships with stakeholders, and lead economic development and innovation.
Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
• Manage the VP Research and Economic Development office (VPRED), including personnel actions, onboarding and equipment inventory for VPRED, the Center for Research and Creative Activity, and existing and new initiatives.

• Calendar and event management for VPRED using independent judgment based on knowledge of VPRED responsibilities and relevance of issues. Independently resolve problems or concerns; interpret process/policy; draft communications and proposals for VPRED review.

• Plan/organize all levels of personnel searches, manage search processes and committees and all aspects of candidate visit schedules.

• Independently coordinate events including vendor negotiations, material production, logistics.

• Support VPRED and serve as liaison to constituents including direct reports, staff and various committees both external and internal; attend meetings in VPRED's absence as appropriate.

• Communicates and facilitates coordination with other VP divisions and units.

• Project management / position development and activity oversight for new project management initiatives.

• May require website and other communication updates.

• May supervise the work of employees and provide feedback and counsel to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

• Attends meetings as a member of the management team. Implements actions for improvement and practical solutions as approved by management.

• Provide leadership, coordination, facilitation, and management in the areas of: reporting and analytics, account operations, account technology platforms, special initiatives and process improvements.

• Leads and facilitates communication of best practices, policies, procedures and initiatives. Mentors and coaches DRED staff to further develop competencies.

• Analyzes and resolves problems; interprets policy and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge.

• Budget management oversight including analysis and reconciliation, budget reports, resource projection and management. Communicate with other campus areas and faculty re: funding availability for projects and special initiatives. Assist VPRED direct reports/directors in strategic planning and budgeting. Manage budgets, including forecasting, and manage resources for new initiatives housed in the DRED.

• Communicates and facilitates coordination with other VP divisions and units.

• Duties will evolve over time as significant growth is occurring in the VPRED office.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Previous team lead or supervisor experience preferred

• Ability to effectively communicate and present information

• Excellent interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships across management and functions

• Experience analyzing and interpreting complex documents and situations

• Requires advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles

• Competency with spreadsheets

• Critical thinking and discernment skills
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 5 years experience in similar work

Preferred Qualifications:

• Five years executive level support;

• Team formation, development and supervision;

• Spreadsheet (e.g. Excel, Google) and database expertise;

• Website maintenance experience
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range starting at $83,000 annually; commensurate with experience.
