The position is grant funded for a minimum of (four) years.

Position Details

The CCBHC Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) performs a range of tasks through individual and group encounters to assist consumers in regaining control over their own lives and over their own recovery process. The CPS will role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills, serve as a consumer advocate, and provide information and peer support within Merakey Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) services. The CPS also provides essential expertise and consultation to other CCBHC team members in promoting a recovery-oriented culture and practice of service provision and in understanding the consumers' perspective and subjective experience. Services are provided in accordance with all CCBHC requirements, existing Merakey policies, procedures and regulations, and in accord with the mission and value of the company.

• Greet individuals and respond to general questions about the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic and Merakey services.

• Support individuals with the completion of admission and/or intake documents, to include self-administered screening tools, if needed.

• Educate individuals on the services offered by Merakey.

• Facilitate surveys or basic screenings as needed.

• Coach program participants on how to develop and practice skills needed to achieve goals outlined in their recovery plan and for maintaining personal wellness.

• Teach self-advocacy skills.

• Be willing to share one's own recovery experience while being aware that each person's road to recovery is unique.

• Participate in team meetings and promote a recovery perspective.

• Keep team and supervisors informed of problematic issues, obstacles, and accomplishments experienced by individuals in working toward their respective recovery goals.

• Complete accurate and timely documentation of services as needed and/or required.

• Facilitate the development of Wellness Recovery Action Plans or other Wellness Tools, if needed.

• Other duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following qualifications:

• Must have a high school diploma or general equivalence degree (GED),

• Experience dealing with the challenges of having a mental health and/or substance use disorder,

• Be in stable recovery from those challenges,

• Must have received Peer Specialist Certification upon graduation of the Certified Peer Specialist Training,

• Within the last 3 years has maintained at least 12 months of successful full or part-time paid or voluntary work experience or obtained at least 24 credit hours of post-secondary education.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
