Description:
Coordinates and maintains daily operational activities in the practice. Utilizes current nursing practices to provide patient care while focusing on the needs of the patient and exemplifying the service excellence goals of care, concern, respect and cooperation. As a contributing member of a health care team, functions in the role of patient advocate for patient-related care issues as well as serves as champion for patient safety in the clinical environment.
Functions in the role of patient advocate by being in the position of initial contact for patient-related issues. Clarifies and implements physician orders and provides direct care as prescribed by the physician (Magnet Force #12). Recognizes symptoms and establishes priorities consistent with patient's condition (Magnet Force #9). Documents patient's physical and emotional status in order to address patient needs appropriately (Magnet Force #'s 5,6).

Reviews and evaluates plan of care, obtains information from patient and/or family, and adds to plan of care as appropriate (Magnet Force #'s 2,6). Collaborates with other members of the health care team to promote efficient patient care (Magnet Force #'s 10,11,13). Provides for the physical, cultural and psychosocial needs of the patient and family. Integrates evidence-based practice and professional standards whenever possible. Serves as a champion for patient safety by continually observing and monitoring the clinical environment and assuring that safety goals and standards are considered when providing care in the practice setting.

Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Protects confidentiality of patient's Personal Health Information (PHI) (Magnet Force #'s 3,8,13). Assures appropriate and effective communication between members of the healthcare team.

Provides input to manager in preparation of budget to ensure appropriate fiscal and human resource management. Demonstrates and fosters good customer service skills to promote optimal patient satisfaction. Assists management in promoting and developing marketing activities to ensure continued practice growth and market share. Participates in community promotional activities. Maintains a collaborative relationship with physicians in the practice to optimize efficient operations. Serves as a liaison beween physicians and practice staff as well as with other departments for problem resolution.

Establishes and monitors quality assurance activities in the practice to comply with organizational expectations for providing high-quality, effective service. Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes. Assists in developing site-specific administrative guildelines to guide practice operations, and participates in division quality projects and initiatives. Serves as a clinical expert by reporting patient related issues and concerns directly to the manager and medical director. Assumes an active role in maintaining site preparedness and compliance with guidelines and standards as defined by regulatory agencies (ie. The Joint Commission, Illinois Department of Public Health) (Magnet Force #'s 1,7).

Handles nurse-directed telephone calls from patients and seeks appropriate input and direction from the physician or functions from signed protocols if applicable.

Oversees clinical, clerical and ancillary support personnel and functions. Monitors daily staff work schedules and makes staffing adjustments as needed. Provides input and assists manager in preparation of support staff performance reviews. Assists staff in developing personal goals and objectives. Participates in hiring, orienting, training, counseling and work improvement plans for support staff. Demonstrates personal accountability for professional growth and job performance (Magnet Force #'s 4,14).

Assists in preparation of annual budget and ensures efficient utilization of supplies/resources and cash management guidelines. Supervises completion of daily billing and collection processes. Assures accuracy of patient charges and directs patients appropriately with billing-related issues or pre-certification needs. Oversees procurement and appropriate maintenance of medical and pharmaceutical supplies.

Required: Bachelors Degree

Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience

Managerial Experience: 1-2 years

Details: Supervises clinical staff and ensures operational efficiency and timely documentation as well as meeting service standard for return phone calls and triage.

Licensure/Certifications:

Required:

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

Current Registered Nurse License State of Illinois

Preferred: N/A

Other: Specialty certification in a clinical or functional area of nursing granted by a national nursing organization is preferred.
