Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse Educator-perinatal services within the Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation will ensure development and coordination of programs, structures, and processes that promote nursing and clinical education and training at UCSF Medical Center, as well as programming for professional development and mastery.  The Clinical Nurse Educator is an expert in her/his content area and is expected to remain clinically current and competent in the content area (which may span several units/departments). 

This position is 32 hours/week, Monday-Friday.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of developing and delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation, class training and skills / competency learning and leadership development
  • Interpersonal skills, with the ability to participate in the development and delivery of new education and training programs and to develop positive working relationships with nursing staff and leadership
  • Organizational and project management skills, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule
  • Skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey the most complex clinical, technical, and education and training information in a clear and concise manner, and to produce high-quality reports, documentation, and presentations
  • Knowledge of a broad spectrum of professional nursing practices and issues and in-depth knowledge in a clinical nursing specialty area
  • Knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess highly-complex and urgent problems to develop an expedient path of resolution
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing program
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited Nursing program
  • Doctoral degree preferred
  • Current NRP Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Nursing Professional Development or other national nursing certification

License/Certification
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification

Department Description
The Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation is a Nursing support department with three main arms:  Clinical Education/Training, Clinical Practice, and Clinical Inquiry.  The Clinical Education and Training arm is made up of Clinical Nurse Educators who oversee the training and education needs for the Department of Nursing.  The Clinical Practice arm is made up Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Practice Specialists who oversee practice for the Department of Nursing.  The Clinical Inquiry arm oversees all aspects of clinical inquiry (quality improvement, evidence-based practice, research, and innovation).
