Position Summary

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics at the University of Denver seeks a faculty member for a Clinical or Teaching Track position (non-tenure track) for the academic year 2021-2022 beginning September 1, 2021. This faculty member will be a core faculty member in the Master's in Clinical Exercise Physiology (CEP) Program and will contribute to the undergraduate Physiology in Health & Disease major. This faculty member will also assist in managing the new Physiology lab, which will be used for teaching, research, and clinical purposes.

Appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor will be made initially as a one-year contract renewable on a yearly basis for three years, followed by a three-year contract where renewal is contingent on formal performance review. The Clinical and Teaching Professorial Series provide opportunity for promotion and advancement within the series. The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching, advising, and mentoring of CEP graduate students and contributing to the teaching in the undergraduate physiology major. Teaching areas of expertise may include but are not limited to Nutrition, Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physiology, ECG Interpretation, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Physical Activity for Management & Treatment of Chronic Disease, Clinical Exercise Physiology, or special-topics courses.
  • Duties may include providing guidance for students in identifying clinical internships and opportunities, and networking with outside organizations and institutions to build relationships for these opportunities. Advising duties encompass administrative tasks as well as professional mentorship of students in the Program.
  • Engaging in all CEP graduate faculty activities (such as participating in student competency exams, faculty meetings, committees, and the student admissions processes) and participating as a core faculty member within the larger College and University.

Required Qualifications

Clinical Assistant Professor
  • Terminal degree in medicine, health professions or related field.
  • Strong potential for or proven record of excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Teaching Assistant Professor
  • Ph.D. degree from a life science discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach college level physiology or related courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Clinical Assistant Professor
  • Experience in teaching and developing college level courses, especially for graduate students.
  • Expertise in the area of exercise physiology.

Teaching Assistant Professor
  • Experience in teaching and developing college level physiology or related curriculum.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $65,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
