SUMMARY

The Commodity Buyer for Metals Commodity Purchasing is responsible for procurement of required goods and/or services under the Metals Commodity, across multiple locations within region North America.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage a regional supplier strategy with strong emphasis on cost management, maximizing global synergies and improving quality and delivery performance; the creation and proposal of budgets for various commodities and cost avoidance targets for affected Business Units is included.
  • Overall responsibility for serving as the lead negotiator to achieve (or exceed) budget; consolidate and report Business Unit performance in responsible commodities.
  • Closely partner with affected locations regarding supplier panels, new technologies & cost savings activities for assigned programs; manage savings projects through implementation.
  • Issue RFQ's (Request for Quote) and associated purchase orders. Negotiate with target/preferred suppliers for best cost, quality and delivery conditions related to supply.
  • Provide continuing assessment of the business climate, market conditions, and key supplier information to provide input for internal forecasting requirements.
  • Comply with all applicable laws/policies governing the buyer/seller relationship and conduct business in an ethical way to represent the company in the best possible manner.
  • Work diligently and remain organized striving to achieve assigned goals, objectives, and targets of associated category.
  • Ensure supply protection and continuity of demand and supply across assigned category.
  • Evaluate cross-plant/division sources of supply to maximize company leverage.
  • Actively participate in select business projects to complete purchasing requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with functional counterparts and fellow purchasing team members to achieve common goals.
  • Review current processes and procedures strategically and propose improvements where needed.
  • Work through procure-to-payment challenges and bring them to a resolution as the situation requires.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial), or related is required; CPM or CPIM, a plus.
  • 2 years of related purchasing experience in a Tier 1 environment is required. Previous purchasing experience for metals commodity is preferred.
  • Strong negotiation, financial cost analysis, market analysis, continuous improvement, problem solving, time and project management skills is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with cross functional teams, including the ability to build alliances, in a regional, changing environment to deliver value-added results is required.
  • Proven ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines. Must be able to manage/lead multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written. This includes strong persuasive skills, assertiveness, be analytical, proactive, and innovative.
  • Ability to relate and adapt to different cultures is necessary.
  • Self-motivated, customer-oriented, and detail-oriented.
  • Knowledge of SAP is preferred but not required.
