Job Description

Role Summary

The Partnership Matters Consultant will be responsible for monthly, quarterly and non-regular Partner payments. This individual will create Partner quarterly earnings statements, journal entries, and monthly GL account reconciliations. The Partnership Matters Analyst will provide support to Partners by fielding general questions, managing adHoc requests and performing balance sheet reconciliations and monthly/quarterly closings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the direct deposit population's monthly draws, pension and Of Counsel compensation processed through the ADP payroll system.
  • Perform all updates (compensation changes, bank deposit instructions and all related payee information) within the ADP payroll system.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for submission to Accounts Payable and monthly payment applications for submission to Treasury Services, both for input into the accounting system.
  • Send monthly email notifications to Partners related to their draw, including late diaries and "exhausted" payments.
  • Publish monthly ADP pay stubs and Partner Earnings Statements following established procedures, which includes using pre-programed Excel macros.
  • Maintain and update a log file in Excel on Partner and Of Counsel bank accounts.
  • Review bank information changes on a monthly basis and before a partner distribution (periodic or non-periodic) to ensure all bank data used for partner draw wires is accurate.
  • Perform on-going maintenance of a log of special events for statement footnotes and group proofing of these statements.
  • Prepare bank wires, foreign office local payment instructions, journal entries, and all support documentations for quarterly expatriate allowance payments to Partners.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of schedules and folders for the pre-compensation process.
  • Compile daily compensation process packages and deliver these packages to assigned Policy Committee members.
  • Participate in the group proofing of the annual Partner Financial statement and Capital Schedule.
  • Launch Partnership votes on an as needed basis, and send out communications from the Partner voting system.
  • Document publications to the Partner Portal, use existing Excel macros to generate files in the proper file naming convention, and publish these documents to the Portal.
  • Assist in the proofing of the annual imputed interest calculation statements for individual Partners.
  • Mail statements, schedules or other information to Partners, as needed.
  • Scan documents and file them to the appropriate network file path and/or individual partner folders.
  • Assist with non-periodic assignments related to Partner compensation, capital, personal charges/taxes, or income verifications.
  • Directly assist Partners with ad-hoc requests related to Partnership Matters.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, GL and quarterly statements.
  • Strong MS Excel skills, including knowledge of Excel macros.
  • Superior analytical skills.

Education & Experience
  • 3+ years' experience in staff accounting, financial analysis, bookkeeping, capital analysis and/or journal entry experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration preferred.

Physical Activity/Other Miscellaneous
  • Ability to work extended hours to fulfill monthly, quarterly and annual responsibilities.
  • Ability to work on weekends during the annual partner compensation process (last week of December through the end of January of the following year).

Shearman & Sterling's compensation is merit-based. The good faith, annualized salary range for this position is $64,000 to $88,000 depending on the candidate's overall experience and other job-related factors permitted by law such as, education, training, other responsibilities. The annual salary range listed is just one component of Sherman & Sterling's total compensation and benefits package which includes a discretionary bonus, paid leave, life, health, accident and disability insurance; and a 401(k) plan.
