JOB SUMMARY

Credit Analysis & Portfolio monitoring:

This position is responsible for credit initiation of new clients as well as periodic credit risk assessment of existing clients in the Natural Resources & Renewables portfolio in the U.S. This would include timely drafting of credit analysis through Business Credit Applications (BCAs) as directed by the Head of Segment/Relationship Managers. Such analysis should be independent and in line with bank approved credit policies and processes and include the following:

1. Discuss overall exposure on the Client, rationale for limits (including lending, trade, corporate finance and FX products), assess overall economic loss and determine business and risk approving authorities.

2. Assess the dynamics and nature of the Client's/Group's business and industry, including key risk aspects.

3. Conduct peer analysis and assess the Client's/Group's competitive positioning within its industry.

4. Assess management strength, experience and track record and corporate governance.

5. Articulate the Client's/Group's strategy and an assessment of its clarity and associated execution risks.

6. Assess funding strategy, financial policy, treasury activity (hedging, cash management) and liquidity.

7. Prepare financial spreads and Internal scorecard to assign internal rating grade to the Client.

8. Assess balance sheet strength, alongside cash flow and profitability vulnerability, via trend and ratio analysis.

9. Assess other pertinent risk aspects and mitigating factors, including country risk, parental and/or governmental linkage/support, holding company risk, collateral evaluation, covenant structure and cushion analysis, relative ranking of indebtedness, structural and / or contractual subordination aspects etc.

10. Conduct leveraged lending assessment in line with U.S. regulatory requirement and support with base and stress case projections to assess repayment capacity over 7 years as well as Enterprise Valuation Analysis (EVA) for high-risk clients.

11. Support completion of mandatory checklists including Climate Risk Assessment, Environment & Social Risk Assessment and Reputational Risk assessment.

12. Complete Fraud Risk Assessment for all clients including assessment of red flags in the fraud risk report and trade counterparty assessment.

13. For FX limits, complete limit review and substantiation exercise in line with Financial Markets Appropriateness and Credit Term Sheet updates based on RM/Risk feedback.

The position is also responsible for the following portfolio credit monitoring activities:

1. Completion of annual credit reviews of assigned accounts and re-assess key risks and re-evaluate internal credit grade. Ensure zero annual credit review overdues and minimize review extensions.

2. Identify client limits with low / nil utilization and escalate to the respective Relationship Manager for input / additional discussions with product partners and / or clients.

3. Prepare interim BCAs to increase / decrease limits, propose amendments/waivers, refresh financial analysis, update Credit Grade (when required), etc.

4. Support coverage team in structuring deals and present credit proposals in senior business and risk approval committees.

5. Monitor Covenants & Risk Triggers (C&RTs). Raise any breaches under (C&RTs) to Relationship Manager, and Credit.

6. Monitor and assess rating agencies actions including downgrades or outlook changes.

7. Perform credit stress testing on assigned names, when required.

8. Ensure compliance with all internal and regulatory credit / other portfolio related policies in conjunction with GAMs. Support senior Credit Analysts and GAMs in preparing and responding to internal / external audits and regulatory exams.

9. Ensure that all relevant client information, including financials, compliance reports, credit agreement, amendments, credit approvals, dispensations, endorsements, etc., is clearly named and saved in the shared drive in an organized manner.

10. Manage the credit change process globally across teams when credit policy changes are enacted, analyse gaps and propose solutions that optimize execution.

11. Participate in peer reviews across business segments and ad hoc projects to analyse policy implementation and quality gaps.

12. Proactively monitor key client or industry wide events or developments. Conduct periodic or ad hoc portfolio reviews of assigned client or industry subject to adverse news or vulnerable to economic, market or regulatory events.

Technical Knowledge: This position requires the following prerequisites:

1. Credit Core Curriculum certification and expert working knowledge of Creditmate system.

2. Understanding and Operational experience and knowledge of Standard Chartered Credit policies and Processes including Credit Application Process, General Lending Standard, Credit Grading Standard, Large Exposure Standard, Covenant and Risk triggers monitoring Standard, Country Portfolio Underwriting Standard, Risk Mitigation Standard, Early Alert Standard, Stressed Asset Group (Credit Grade 12 ,13 and 14) Standard, Leveraged Lending policy etc.

Stakeholder Partnership: This position is responsible to partner the team's two key stakeholder communities, Client Coverage and Risk, supporting the former in developing and executing their client strategies and both in respect of credit analysis-relevant matters.

1. Partner with GAM/RMs in pursuing their client strategies through proactive idea generation, support in preparing materials for client discussion and through ensuring they are always fully briefed on key risk aspects.

2. Partner with Risk through clear presentation of credit analysis and proposed credit grading, as well as through proactive and considered discussion of key risk aspects.

3. Accompany GAM/RMs on client visits, as part of general due diligence in respect of credit analysis.

4. Act as a broader point of expertise in respect of credit aspects with Product and others across SCB.

5. Ensure engagement with senior stake holders - Segment Business Head and Credit team to align priorities and proactively address any issues.

6. Cultivate, collaborate and maintain close relationships with respective internal partners, including respective Risk units, Legal, Compliance, Loan Documentation Unit, as well as Credit Risk Control in the course of everyday busine

Educational Qualifications:
  • Graduates / Graduate calibre.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting and financial principles gained by experience or qualification.
  • MBA or CFA qualifications advantageous, but not required.

Expected annual base pay range for the role is $120, 000 to $150, 000 .The final offer will be determined on an individualised basis using a number of variables, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and education, internal relativity, and specific work location.
