Data Engineer

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-value data products, including data pipelines, data marts, data warehouse improvements, data integration processes, and other solutions. You will consult with product owners on business requirements to help support Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and other stakeholders on their data-focused initiatives and projects. You will actively contribute to an environment of innovation and collaboration to help ensure the continued success of the Data Services department.

Job duties will vary upon assignment but may include:

  • Design and implement data pipelines, data marts, data warehouses, and other data products to meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements which will include but is not limited to automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate tests to ensure products and services are consistent with defined needs.
  • Handle on-call duties by fixing production issues in a timely manner to ensure the team is meeting their service-level agreements (SLAs) and effectively communicating about production issues when they occur.
  • Maintain project documents, templates, document specifications, and other reusable knowledge assets.
  • Ensure deliverables adhere to defined data standards, data models and definitions, and actively contribute to data governance/master data management initiatives.
  • Actively contribute to making the team and culture stronger by assisting with other duties as needed, excluding licensed activity.

  • 2+ years of experience in developing complex SQL queries including windowing functions, transaction handling, dynamic SQL, etc.
  • 2+ years of experience in designing efficient databases and tables in a relational DBMS (Microsoft SQL Server preferred) utilizing primary and foreign keys, indexing, and/or normalization.
  • 2+ years of experience working with XML and JSON data formats
  • 2+ years of experience with Git, TFVC, or other version control software
  • Familiarity with document databases (MongoDB, CouchDB, etc.)
  • Strong business acumen, with ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Proficient with a programming language (C#, Java, Python, etc.) to build/call APIs, parse JSON/XML data, perform error handling, and/or implement data transformation methods.
  • Proficient in at least one ETL toolset (ideally, SSIS) for generating files, loading data into relational DBMS, scripting, logging, and/or complex data transformations.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, or other version control software.
  • 2+ years of experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Oozie, Presto, Kafka, etc.)
  • Experience working with, or understanding of, document databases (MongoDB, CouchDB, etc.)
  • Familiarity and experience with ERWIN or similar data modeling software
  • Familiarity with common data visualization/reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Proven background of ETL development, including building data pipelines, data warehousing, and reporting architectures.
  • Proficient in basic computer technologies, appropriate for an internet-based company
  • Regular and predictable attendance
