Within Instagram, one of our most impactful organizational pillars is Instagram Product Foundation, whose mission is to create a well-crafted Instagram experience that works for all users, anywhere. We want an Instagram that is accessible, high-quality, and inclusive of the needs of all our users. The Data Science Director of Product Foundation will lead teams of data scientists across four sub-pillars, each focused on broad, cross-Instagram experiences. One of these sub-pillars will have a dedicated DS manager, and others will have tech leads. The Product Foundation organization drives significant user engagement and retention wins through improving the holistic user experiences across all interfaces. These improvements are driven from performance optimizations, higher craft & visual quality, improved notification relevance, and more. Additionally, the organization enables other teams across Instagram, through offering critical platforms and programs for them to leverage.Performance: Focused on delivering exceptional performance to every person, everywhere, at scale. Pivotal organization that impacts the entire Instagram experience, and has been a major driver of engagement for Instagram, especially in emerging markets. Organization has four major teams: User Experiences, Producer Experiences, Scale, and Media Platform. Notification Systems: Focused on creating a cohesive notifications experience across Instagram. Teams are responsible for the end-to-end experience of how and when we deliver high-quality promotional and organic notifications to users to power Instagram engagement. Platforms: Focused on cross-Instagram experiences across our primary interfaces of IG Web, IG4A and IG4iOS. The organization ensures better architecture and developer experience; improves build reliability, build quality, and dogfooding health; and supports partnerships such as improving and scaling IG Foldables experience.Services: Focused on ensuring Instagram's reliability and uptime while also enabling Instagram's developers. Organization includes Client Infra, Server Dev Infra, and Capacity, Web Server, & Demand teams. We are looking for a leader with excellent product sense and analytical ability to drive informed product and engagement decisions. You have a proven track record of focusing organizations on results, using analytics to drive understanding and decision-making for both products and platforms. Equally important, you have a proven track record of growing organizations, hiring & mentoring managers, and enabling people to hit their career aspirations. Finally, this is a high-visibility role, so the ideal candidate has very strong communication skills and should be comfortable interfacing with leaders in a cross-functional capacity within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
