About the Position:

Architect and design enterprise data solutions, including architecture definition, data modeling, design, and implementation of warehousing solutions. Lead data warehousing projects focusing on students, faculty, staff, financial performance, and other university critical metrics.

This position will provide infrastructure, application support, and data integration for a variety of SMU applications and systems, with a substantial amount of duties falling to data warehousing activities.

Other duties may include application administration, performance troubleshooting of applications, documentation of processes and procedures, project planning, change management, integration management, and customer communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze data holdings, and develop schema in support of growth and extension. Design and configure the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes such that the data fits into a unified data architectural model. Build Data Vault 2.0 compliant solutions using DBT and SQL Server Integration Services.
  • Support other SMU applications, including data source systems. Design and document data flows between systems.
  • Create effective technical & project documentation. Provide customer and technical documentation for supported systems. Document workflow processes and diagrams in consultation with the customer.
  • Solid project management. Manage projects with wide scope.
  • Communications. Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues and management.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required; preferably degree of study in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or related field.

A master's degree is preferred.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience is required. Candidate with experience integrating a variety of technologies is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate with experience in data architecture, Data Vault 2.0, SQL Server Integration Services, data warehousing, and business analytics is desired. Candidate must demonstrate experience solving complex data and data integrations. Strong advanced analytical skills is required. Must also demonstrate clear and concise verbal and written skills.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Software Skills:
  • Candidate with DBT experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of SQL and SQL Server Integration Services
  • Experience with Python, R, and other data analysis tools is a plus
Physical and Environmental Demands:
  • Sit for long periods of time
