About the Position

Troy University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the college with multi-campus responsibility for coordinating all academic programs, scholarship and service activities. The position is responsible for providing oversight of program reviews, assessment and regional and specialized accreditation; strategic planning, resource management, and all aspects of human resource development, as well as overseeing the development of undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The position has oversight of nine academic departments: Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminology; Biological & Environmental Sciences; Chemistry and Physics; Computer Science; Geospatial Informatics; History and Philosophy; Mathematics and Statistics; Political Science; and Air Force ROTC and Army ROTC.

The School of Science and Technology includes four of the academic departments listed and has oversight of the soon-to-open Polymer Science Research Building, which is the first pure research building in Troy University's history. Special emphasis will be placed on finding a candidate with experience building STEM research opportunities as the University moves forward in its pursuit of securing R2 status.

The successful candidate will provide overall direction of the faculty; supervising the associate deans of the college, the director of the School of Science and Technology and academic department chairs; working actively in fundraising, forging strategic partnerships with the private and public sectors, and building external relationships including working with the college's advisory council. Elevating grant and research activity within the college as well as advancing the professional accreditation of the college and its reputation regionally and nationally will be of upmost importance.

The Dean reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and serves on the Chancellor's Cabinet, Academic Steering Committee, Council of Deans and other committees as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in a field within the college Proven administrative leadership in higher education A record of academic achievement that would qualify the candidate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in fostering external relationships and generating external funding Experience with recruiting and retaining faculty and students
