Purpose

This leadership position will report to the Business Performance, Long Term Planning and Investments Vice President and is responsible for long-term business planning, investment reporting, and other business analysis.

The job involves frequent interaction and coordination with Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Business Analysis and Performance, Networks and Renewables Controllers, Risk, Investors Relations and Corporate Development. The position requires a strong specialization in finance, valuation techniques and a good understanding of the Renewable energy and Utility regulated markets

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in supporting our consolidated strategic and financial planning processes for Investors, Rating Agencies and Group consolidation.
    • Develop and maintain complex business financial models to be used for strategic planning and long-term forecasting
    • Provide meaningful and timely explanation of long-term forecast and recommendations to minimize risks
    • Maintain a sound understanding of specific accounting and regulatory treatment
    • Monitor business developments and quantify impact on the plans and business valuation
  • Lead and coordinate the annual Impairment Test for the different business segments
  • Supervise and coordinate the analysis of all the Investment proposals according to the process and requirements set by the Company's Investment Standard.
  • Prepare analysis and valuation of non-organic growth, such as potential future Company acquisitions and divestments
  • Prepare presentations and key reporting to the Executive team and Board
  • Support Avangrid leadership in evaluating strategic initiatives and key decision processes
  • Develop and evolve scalable processes to effectively manage financial performance and forecast accuracy
  • Actively contribute to the design and implementation of planning tools

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required
•Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
•10+ years broad-based finance experience, including complex valuation models and financial statements forecast modeling
•Understanding of energy markets and experience with non-regulated and regulated energy companies
•A proclivity for working in a fast-paced environment.
•Strong working understanding of US GAAP. Exposure to GAAP-IFRS differences preferred
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Demonstrated proficiency with Excel

Skills/Abilities:
Core competencies include detailed understanding or extensive experience with:
oInvestment and project lifecycles
oComponent cost elements of a typical project budget
oInvestment appraisal process (what costs and benefits are relevant, what is meant by Net Present Value, Discounted Cash Flow, Internal Rate of Return)
oDouble entry process, income statement and balance sheet
oExperience architecting integrated models from scratch in Excel or in other planning applications
oPreparation of financial projections
oEffect of accruals and their relevance to actual cost reporting
•Strong financial modeling skills of financial statements including income statement, cash flow and balance sheet
•Knowledge of financial metrics principles, purchase price allocation and valuation methodologies
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others as well as operate with a minimum of supervision
•Confidence to challenge/question where appropriate
•Sound organizational and time management skills
