Position Overview

New Mexico has abundant solar and wind energy that, when harvested and delivered to market, can serve millions of Americans. The Director, Local and Community Affairs will serve as a public affairs leader and in-state company representative for Invenergy, acting primarily on behalf of North Path, New Mexico's most ambitious renewable energy transmission project.

The Director, Local and Community Affairs will serve as a trusted point of contact, agreement broker, and public project representative for Invenergy and North Path across the full range of Sovereign Nations and stakeholders whose interests overlap with the project. The role will lead engagement efforts to secure necessary agreements, advance project partnerships, and build a coalition of supportive project champions across New Mexico.

The Director, Local and Community Affairs will report to the SVP, Transmission Public Affairs and work closely with counterparts in Invenergy's development, legal, government, regulatory, environmental, and communications teams, among other functions, to ensure alignment on project strategy and key workstreams, as well as seamless coordination among the team of Invenergy's staff and consultants located in or working in New Mexico.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a representative of Invenergy and the North Path project through direct engagement with the wide range of partners and stakeholders the North Path project touches, including through meetings and events.
• Lead engagement with relevant stakeholders including private landowners, county officials, and community organization leadership in the negotiation of easements, crossing agreements, resolutions of support, partnership agreements, and other commitments for North Path.
• Support engagement with Sovereign Nations, including in the negotiation of partnership and community benefits agreements.
• Lead the development and implementation of a strategy and plan for engaging New Mexico stakeholders; coordinate with other project team functions and provide direct management of North Path's external stakeholder engagement contractors to implement plan.
• Identify and advance strategic partnership (e.g. workforce training), sponsorship, and community giving opportunities for Invenergy and North Path to build goodwill and advance project objectives.
• Identify, nurture, and activate champions for North Path and Invenergy's work in New Mexico to advance the interests of the project and company.
• Provide regular feedback within the project team on project planning and public issue considerations identified through stakeholder engagement that should inform broader project development, public affairs, and other project planning.
• Provide input and support document development on content related to stakeholder engagement for community benefits plans, customer proposals, federal funding applications, communications collateral materials, economic impact reports, regulatory filings and other project documents typical of a development stage infrastructure project.
• Support regulatory permitting and compliance record keeping and reporting by keeping well organized stakeholder lists and detailed notes on stakeholder interactions in company systems.
• Success in the role will require managing multiple tasks simultaneously and in a timely manner, sound critical thinking and judgement, strong people skills, and proactive collaboration with colleagues and project contractors.

Qualifications

• 10+ years progressive career experience in fields including infrastructure or real estate development, public affairs, communications, government, politics, law, engineering, environment, sustainability ore related fields.
• Located in New Mexico and have multiple years of experience working in New Mexico or the desert southwest.
• Possess four year college degree; advanced degree preferred in law, business, economics, or related field
• Comfortable and experienced in presenting project information to a wide variety of audiences and in a wide variety of settings, including in one-on-one meetings, public events and in the media
• Familiarity of the energy industry
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races
• Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time, including being the holder of a driver's license and be willing and able to operate personal and/or rented vehicle for travel to project locations, as many are not accessible by public transit.
• Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
