Director of Video Production & Content Strategy (Subject to Board Approval)

General Statement of Job:
The Director of Video Production and Content Strategy is responsible for the administrative oversight and leadership of video content and provides professional strategy in the writing, producing, developing and/or technical aspects of program productions of the college. This position works collaboratively with the Creative Art Director and reports directly to the Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing in daily administration of Public Relations and Marketing services as directed or assigned.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversees the designing, coordinating, directing, shooting and editing of educational; instructional; promotional; commercial and other video material/content in the area of radio, television or film.
  2. Oversees the work of video production, videography, digital services and web production. Provides content strategy and technical guidance and direction to assigned staff.
  3. Directs video productions ranging from single-camera productions to multi-camera field and studio productions. This includes interacting with and guiding clients, subjects/talent and others through the production process.
  4. Operates and/or directs the operation of professional cameras, audio equipment, lighting equipment and related equipment to effectively record a variety of program materials. Recommends minor and/or major production changes to obtain the most appropriate and effective materials.
  5. Reviews and evaluates proposals, outlines and scripts for clarity of purpose, consideration of audience, and appropriate creative and technical approach.
  6. Estimates production requirements, provides budget estimates, and evaluates copyright clearance and release requirements. Meets with clients through all phases of each project to obtain client input, to solve problems, and to keep projects on schedule.
  7. Performs production activities, to include but not limited to, talent acquisition, set design, scene selection, special effects, music selection and ensures quality standards throughout the entire process.
  8. Oversees all script development for video and audio productions to ensure it aligns with college mission and goals.
  9. Operates and oversees the use of a variety of production software applications for video editing, audio editing, graphics creation, compositing, compressing, encoding/transcoding and captioning.
  10. Researches, requests and implements new video production technologies.
  11. Coordinates the archiving of video assets for short- and long-term storage and access.
  12. Oversees the preparation, duplication, and delivery of video and related materials for a variety of distribution channels including the internet, (OTHER), and mobile devices.
  13. Consults with team members as needed on complex or specialized projects and ensures it aligns with business objectives to deliver high-quality work on time and on budget.
  14. Maintains knowledge of the College’s policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  15. Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  16. Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, mentors, assigns schedules, and evaluates the Public Relations and Marketing staff and promote staff development.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Film/Video Production, Communications, Journalism, Television Production, Media Arts, Graphic Design or related area preferred.
  2. At least four (4) years of experience in marketing and/or public relations required.
  3. At least four (4) years of supervisory experience.
  4. Experience in the field of radio, television or film program productions required.
  5. Experience in a higher education institution or educational setting, preferred.
