Job Summary

Coordinates and provides instruction to new and tenured clinical/non-clinical staff related to orientation and ongoing competency assessments utilizing a variety of settings and methodologies, including classroom and off site education. Partners with Director of Staff Development, administrators and other clinical staff in determining skills assessed for competency based upon new education, clinical techniques/processes, etc. and determines appropriate evaluation methods for each. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates ongoing education to meet organizational needs. Serves a professional resource for internal and external customers. Incorporates critical thinking skills, evidence-based practice and quality into all educational activities.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Registered Nurse currently licensed in Georgia. Current BLS certification required.
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of medical office/clinical care experience within the last five (5) years.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to relay clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice/procedures to a variety of clinical situations, incorporating critical thinking, electronic documentation and quality healthcare delivery in classroom, simulation lab or clinical unit settings
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning principles related to current patient assessment and direct care delivery. Ability to communicate in respectful, constructive and professional manner while assessing learner performance for accuracy and proficiency.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with various office and clinical computer systems, i.e. Microsoft office, online learning system, electronic medication administration and documentation systems, simulation programming, etc
  • Flexibility with schedules and job responsibilities; demonstrate strong organizational and presentation skills
  • Professional, effective communication, interpersonal and customer service skills

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development of nursing orientation programming based upon needs assessments, discussions with key nursing leaders, regulatory and/or evidence based practice guidelines and state practice laws.
  • Assess participant performance of clinical competencies accurately, consistently and honestly, providing remediation suggestions/plans as necessary.
  • Facilitate group or individual learning activities via interactive presentations, video vignettes, demonstrations, simulations, lectures or supervised direct patient care, to include assessment and evaluations for each.
  • Coordinate the onboarding process of the new employee between clinical educator, administrator, clinical/unit manager.
  • Work with Director of Staff Development, administrators, other clinical personnel for scenarios relative to position.
  • Maintain training records according to Staff Development Department process and standards.
  • Facilitate clinical experiences for new and tenured employees, in partnership with department leaders, that support educational objectives and competency requirements.
  • Facilitate safe and effective delivery of patient care and correct utilization of equipment, medications, etc. according to NGMC/NGPG policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development and presentation of educational activities via development of goals, objectives, lesson plans, resource material and assessments utilizing adult learning principles and accepted professional standards.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational performance improvement activities as needed.
  • Serve as a professional resource to new and existing employees as evidenced by formal and information feedback mechanisms.
  • Demonstrate effective project management, critical thinking skills, productivity and clinical expertise while functioning both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Create instructional design documents, storyboards and participant materials appropriate to content and format of learning activities.
  • Submits data/reports as directed by supervisor by the 2nd day of each month and as requested for special projects, etc.
