Position Details:

The Franceschi Microscopy & Imaging Center (FMIC) is a centralized research and educational facility housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and available to all WSU researchers for the observation, imaging, and ultrastructural study of biological and non-biological specimens. The FMIC has a long history of providing research support and student training. Founded in 1962, the Center is one of the oldest in the United States. The Center provides a safe, fully-equipped laboratory complex for specimen preparation for both light and electron microscopy. We are looking for a new team member to help and teach users, develop new methods, and take care of our equipment. The center is equipped with transmission and scanning electron microscopes, confocal laser scanning microscopes and all necessary ancillary equipment such as a high pressure freezer, sputter coaters, freeze driers etc. Some experience in electron or confocal microscopy is expected, but we encourage applicants from the life sciences and engineering/material science disciplines to apply.

Summary of Duties:

Perform and apply advanced, specialized electron microscopy techniques making independent examination of material. Serve as technical consultant to faculty and investigators with diagnostic problems or research projects. Develop and apply new techniques or procedures applicable to diagnostic ultrastructural pathology or research. Direct the work of, and instruct, post-doctoral fellows, students, or student helper.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in a science-related field which includes coursework in such areas as chemistry, biology, geology, natural sciences, or related sciences, AND two years of experience in an electron microscopy laborator; OR equivalent education/experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Masters or PhD in a life sciences/engineering/material sciences discipline.

Monthly Salary: Range 54, $4,541 - $5,960 -Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
