Engineering Manager

Provide overall project management support for and lead complex capital projects related to aggregate operations in Martin Marietta's Upper Midwest Region of the Central Division. Position also serves as direct-line management and technical resource for District Engineering personnel focused on smaller capital and non-capital projects.

Responsibilities

• Management of project design, estimation and field construction, various aggregate plant improvements, new plant installations, process improvement projects, and other construction management projects, which consists of truck and river yard distribution operations, surface quarries, underground mines, sand & gravel facilities, and asphalt plants.

• Manage Region-wide capital projects and provide guidance to direct reports or peers.

• Develop scope, budgets, initial concepts and bid documents related to Engineering projects. Effectively manage large and complex projects throughout entire life cycle.

• Responsible for communication and coordination with Site, Area, District, Region, Division and Corporate managers on project status.

• Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to issues as they arise.

• Establish and maintain positive relationships with all existing and new general contractors and subcontractors.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws/regulations and company policy concerning safety, environmental, EEO/AAP, and others.

• Work closely with Safety team to ensure that projects, vendors and suppliers adhere to Martin Marietta Safety standards and expectations.

• Works closely with Procurement to ensure that we have the appropriate vendors and suppliers available for the project.

• Knowledge of material handling systems, including the installation and start-up of conveyors, screens, crushers, pumps and pumping systems, material washing systems & sand screws.

• Knowledge of asphalt plants, bag houses, drums, heating systems, and asphalt control systems.

• Knowledgeable in effectively utilizing effective plant automation. Basic understanding of medium-voltage electrical equip., layout, and operations preferred.

• Ability to read engineering drawings and provide oversight for steel fabrication and erection.

• Computer proficient in Microsoft Suite and ability to learn new MM internal programs and systems as needed.

• Experience with AggFlow (Aggregate Plant Simulation program) and AutoCAD software for plant design required.

• Experience with MS Project or other Gantt-chart type of software preferred.

• Experience with successful execution of capital construction projects in underground mining environments is highly desirable.

• Experience managing design-build or EPC-style of large, complex capital construction projects is also highly desirable.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in mining, civil, construction, or mechanical engineering; or equivalent experience required; PE license a plus.

• 5+ years of experience in the aggregates processing or project management preferred.

• Must be willing to travel to accommodate job requirements up to 50% of the time.

• Strong knowledge of AutoCad required.

Work Environment

This job operates frequently in a maintenance and operations environment in both underground and surface locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, manual dexterity, repetitive motion, standing, sitting (must be able to sit for extended periods of time up to 8 hours), walking, climbing stairs, bending and stooping, and the ability to drive.
