Under the general direction of the AVP of Academic Affairs, the person in this position collaborates in planning and implementing recruitment and enrollment plans, as well as campaigns to recruit and register students in the Academic ESL Program. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build excellent rapport with colleagues. They will assist students in all phases of enrollment, from the point of inquiry through placement testing and registration, by providing educational planning and advising services to students, either in person or remotely, via phone, email, text, and video chat. They will register students into appropriate academic coursework after a preliminary review of transcripts, test scores, and transfer credits, as needed. This position also works closely with Academic ESL faculty to support student success in the classroom.

  • Performs outreach activities consistent with priorities established.
  • Performs intake for new, transfer, and readmitted students, including review of available student test scores, transcripts and potential transfer credits.
  • Assists students with educational planning.
  • Refers new and returning students to career and/or transfer advisor as appropriate, to ensure students are assigned to chosen majors and are meeting their academic and personal goals.
  • Consults with AESL faculty as needed on matters related to student placement and academic success.
  • Registers students into appropriate academic coursework prior to the semester's beginning.
  • Adjusts student schedules as needed during the add/drop period.
  • Advises students about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions such as withdrawing from or failing a course, especially as related to SAP.
  • Works closely with financial aid office to support SAP and ensure all that students meet the terms of their SAP educational plans.
  • Documents interactions with students that take place via email, phone, or video conferencing.
  • Collaborates with faculty and academic department chairs to identify and refer student concerns appropriately.
  • Understands processes, systems, and services, so as to be able to connect students with college resources.
  • Collaborates with and make referrals as needed to appropriate academic and student services personnel.
  • Maintains working knowledge of college and professional academic, career and transfer advising practices, to positively affect student success.
  • Attends workshops and training sessions as resources allow.

    • Master's degree in TESOL, ESL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely-related field;
    • Three (3) years experience and/or training in education, counseling, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
    • Advanced English proficiency;
    • Experience teaching both traditional-age and adult students at a community college;
    • Experience assessing the English proficiency levels of adults;
    • Experience advising college students;
    • Ability to work remotely as needed;
    • Experience using video-conferencing technology such as zoom;
    • Experience using academic software, such as Banner or EAB Navigate;
    • Ability to use technology for creating and giving online/in-person presentations;
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.

    • Experience teaching Academic (credit-bearing) ESL at a community college;
    • Ability to communicate at an intermediate level in a language other than English, especially Spanish, Russian, and/or Arabic;
    • Understanding of non-ESL college course offerings and sequences, in particular the English composition sequence;
    • Experience working with Deaf students and students with disabilities;
    • Experience advising college students from diverse backgrounds.

    Salary Range: Grade 5; Salary Range: $59,224 - $66,252/year; Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits. Hours: 37.5 hrs./weekFunding Source: State
