Job Description:

The Financial Regulatory Services division of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Examination and Accreditation Specialist. This position would primarily focus on advancing the risk-focused approach to financial examinations, supporting state insurance regulators in their efforts to monitor the solvency of insurers, and supporting NAIC's Accreditation Program. We are looking for a team member who would enjoy working for an organization that strives every day to support the public good and make a difference by validating the solvency position of insurers. This full-time hybrid position is based in Kansas City, MO in a positive and flexible environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • This cross-functional position works closely with insurance regulators across the country to support financial condition examinations through the development and maintenance of authoritative guidance, sound practices, educational presentations, and other tools, as well as aspects of the NAIC's Accreditation Program.

  • Provides support to NAIC Working Group and Subgroup leadership to address specific needs (i.e., charges). This support includes working closely with senior regulators to establish plans for achieving charges, providing quality materials for meeting leaders and attendees, and executing productive meetings. This position also contributes to the development of content for the Financial Condition Examiners Handbook publication and examination work programs.

  • Involved with the NAIC Examination Peer Review Program, which seeks to identify trends across current financial examinations. Using the knowledge gained through this program, the position will support the development of sound practices and training programs, including presenting training material to state insurance regulators through webinars, online courses and live, in-person settings.

  • Performs a variety of duties that serve the NAIC Accreditation program's mission of establishing and maintaining standards to promote sound insurance company financial solvency regulation. This includes conducting reviews of state work products to ensure compliance with Financial Regulation Standards and providing guidance, training, and ongoing support to state insurance regulators in maintaining accredited status.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfortable speaking in front of a crowd

  • Enjoys a collaborative team environment
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to travel to NAIC National Meetings, continuing education conferences, and NAIC jurisdictions to conduct on-site accreditation reviews

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business field required.
  • Minimum 2 years of financial statement audit/exam experience with specialization in the insurance industry preferred, or a combination of 4 years public and private industry experience with an emphasis in internal auditing, insurance auditing, statutory accounting, financial reporting, U.S. GAAP accounting and technical research or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • CPA/CFE (Certified Financial Examiner) designation
  • Exposure to insurance industry

Compensation:

$62,408 - $78,484, commensurate with education and experience.

Travel:

Requires overnight, out-of-town travel a few times each year. Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the organization determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. Approximately 10% of the time.
