This unit has responsibility for the value chain from discovery through to late-stage development, enabling rapid acceleration of promising early-stage assets and life-cycle management programs.

The Translational Medicine (TM) function exists within Hematology R&D to ensure effective and strategic biomarker studies for Hematology & Oncology project teams. Closely interacting with the pre-clinical BioScience and Discovery, Early Clinical Development, and Precision Medicine & Biosamples diagnostics functions, the Hematology Translational Medicine team is the single point of accountability for delivery of robust, scientifically-driven biomarkers to all Hematology project teams, providing feasibility assessments, technical validation, centralized biomarker analysis capability for clinical samples, delivery of translational science research and early clinical phase engagement.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Design, optimize and execute scalable high throughput genomic and transcriptomic NGS assays, including sample processing, library preparation and sequencing
  • Utilize latest advances in NGS technology, and develop new mehodologies to assist with assay development, workflow optimization and troubleshooting.
  • As a key contributor to Translational Medicine and interdisplinary teams, the candidate will collaborate efficiently to integrate and deliver NGS data to inform patient selection and pharmacodynamic biomarker discovery for implementation in clinical trials
  • Analyze experimental data, organize results, verify data integrity, perform statistical analysis, and visualize data using appropriate software.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized laboratory records, including worksheets, lab notebooks, inventories, and databases.
  • Effectively present and communicate research findings to internal and external collaborators, including upper management, regulatory agencies, and at research conferences.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.
  • Assist with general laboratory maintenance and housekeeping.
  • May advise and train other laboratory personnel in the dveelopment and transfer of successful workflow designs, guiding the troubleshooting, testing and writing SOPs
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in biological sciences with 2+ years laboratory experience , or Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of genomics-based laboratory experience
  • Hands-on experience with NGS platforms (Illumina) and NGS library preparation
  • Strong bench skills with routine molecular biology lab techniques such a nucleic acid extraction, nucleic acid QC, PCR and QRT-PCR
  • Experience in single cell- and epigenetic NGS assay development is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a diverse team.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to high quality standards when performing research, analyzing results and communicating data.
  • Current knowledge of hematology, cancer biology, and drug discovery is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Prism, and data management
