The pay rate for this position is $23.205 to start.

Examples of Work
As a Construction Technician III of Prestress Concrete Products, you will:
• Communicate with Project Managers, Materials and Research, and Concrete Industry staff, recording and reporting any inconsistencies during the production of prestressed/precast products.
• Review processes and maintain records as prestressed/precast products are being produced.
• Sample and transport test materials being used in Precast/Prestress products.
• Measure strand, mesh, headers, block outs, and all embedded items for the proper position prior to pouring concrete girders and other concrete members.
• Responsible for accurately calculating strand tension, as well as strand tensioning procedures. Knowledge of PCI and NDOT specifications.
• Record and input sample data, such as cylinder information, measurements, batch ticket, and post-pour information into AASHTOWare.
• Inspect for conformance with appearance standards and other dimensional requirements.
• Verify that all repairs are completed, and products are tagged before leaving the plant.
• Maintain records of inspections, testing, and equipment calibration.
• Responsible for knowing the proper stripping, handling, storage, and transportation procedures of concrete products.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Experience in performing activities pertinent to construction work such as surveying, materials testing, or field inspections or coursework, or training in construction surveying, materials testing, or inspection practices, and in using associated instruments and equipment. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED: Two-year degree in civil engineering technology, construction management, industrial technology management, or related degree. Experience in sampling, inspecting, and/or testing construction materials or associated products or related experience. Experience in sampling and testing construction materials, highway construction inspection, or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Five years of construction or lab experience, experience with AASHTOWare. Requires ACI Level 1 Field Testing Technician and ability to obtain a PCI Level II certification within one year of hiring date.

OTHER: Some overnight stay is a possibility from time to time. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Procedures and policies involved in the sampling, testing, and inspection of materials used in concrete construction.

Skills in:
• Record-keeping skills as well as attention to detail.

Ability to:
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written form.
• Lift and carry 75 pounds of material samples.
• Read and interpret shop drawings.
• Work in all kinds of weather conditions.
• Stand for extended periods of time
• Work contractor hours as required.
• Work alone as well as being a good team member.
