The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food & Nutrition Services is seeking a HR Coordinator. This position will manage all payroll transactions including LOA, FMLA/ADA/WC. Collaborates with managers and HR Manager in areas of recruitment, compliance and record keeping. Communicates with Payroll, Worker's Compensation and Leave and Disability on compensation and employment status.

  • Serve as ELMS controller and assists scheduling managers with timecard inquiries
  • Submit requisitions in OTAC, rate applicants and recommend candidates for interviews
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding
  • Review and audit time cards for all employees, identifying leave that may qualify for FMLA, LOA, etc.
  • Provide guidance regarding HR policies and procedures, employment regulations and Merit Rules
  • Collaborate with UI Immigration Services regarding immigration documentation to ensure compliance with visa and I-9 documents
  • Initiates FMLA request and communicates status with Leave and Disability staff
  • Trains new managers on ELMS and works with ELMS team as necessary
  • Responds to staff regarding paycheck discrepancies, benefits

Education Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum one year of recent (within that last five years) human resources experience
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with human resources practices such as payroll, compliance, recruitment FMLA/ADA and administrative human resources experience
  • Experience in working with a computerized payroll system
  • Ability to be organized, flexible and multi-task in a high volume environment
