The School of Dental Medicine has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) HR Professional (Open Rank: Entry - Principal) position.

The School of Dental Medicine is looking to recruit multiple Human Resources Professionals to support the School of Dental Medicine (SDM) workforce community. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources and will collaborate with several other HR professionals throughout the SDM and the university. We are seeking human resource professionals who are looking to start their careers in human resources and/or those who have a developed knowledge of one or more HR functional areas (i.e., talent acquisition and planning, total rewards – compensation, workforce relations, HRIS business analysis, or learning and development). The position is located at the University of Colorado - Anschutz Medical Campus. Hours will be dependent on business need (i.e., career fairs, employee consultations, professional development), but typically will be Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00 pm. Hybrid options are strongly considered and will be determined by the SDM HR Director.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Responsible for tracking accurate and timely employee data and records.
  • Learn, develop, and serve as the SDM subject matter expert in one or more HR functional areas (i.e., talent acquisition and planning, total rewards – compensation, workforce relations, HRIS business analysis, or learning and development).
  • Process a variety of human resource transactions (i.e., position creations, hiring requests, payroll, terminations, leave, etc.) using the university technology enterprises.
  • Represents the department at various SDM and Central Human Resources meetings and training sessions.
  • Develop and manage human resource training and resource materials through various mediums, in collaboration with the HR Director other learning and development professionals.
  • Remains current and up to date on all human resource, research and faculty affairs policies and communicates changes as necessary to management and staff.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of department human resource programs, policies, and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations (i.e., ADA, workers compensation, FMLA, COBRA, workplace investigations, etc.).
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality following CORA, FLSA, HIPAA rules and regulations regarding record retention.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external offices related to assigned HR functional areas working with Employee Services, campus human resources, faculty, staff, and benefits. Work with Central HR and Employee Services to resolve issues.
  • Serves as a SDM back-up for non-assigned HR functional areas.

Examples of work performed for various HR functional areas (below). Work assigned will be based on the candidate identified and business need.
  • Learn and serve as a subject matter expert on HR data (i.e., person, job, position) and create/ manage resources and tools for the SDM workforce community.
  • Analyze data and create dashboards and pivot tables to communicate with SDM HR Director and other key stakeholders on themes, projections, and recommendations.
  • Manages the full-cycle talent acquisition responsibilities. This includes writing job descriptions, recruitment coordination, interview coordination, and completing all CU Careers processes), adhering to SDM and university policies and processes.
  • Manages the hiring and onboarding processes for the SDM (i.e., HCM Transactions, SDM HR approval workflows, orientation scheduling, obtaining UCD and UCH ID badges, office keys, parking, IT access for email and servers, pagers, office space and telephones), and provides consultation and support for various SDM department/position specific onboarding.
  • Creates and manages entries in the HCM system for all person, position, job, and/or personnel funding.
  • Manages the performance evaluation process for the entire SDM in collaboration with SDM HR Director (i.e., ensures all employees complete the performance evaluation process, consults with employees and managers, completes evaluations for those delegated to by the HR Director adhering to the SDM and university policies and processes.
  • Manages the off-boarding process for all employees in the department (i.e., termination checklists, coordinate exit interviews, and complete leave payouts in a timely fashion).
  • Ensures annual performance reviews are completed for all faculty, exempt professionals, classified staff.
  • Serves as a learning and development subject matter expert using theory, methodology, and best practice. Creates multi-modality training opportunities for individual contributors, supervisors, and managers.
  • Serves as a workforce relations subject matter expert. Understands employment law, university policies/ processes, and state/federal policies/processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry Level:
  • A bachelor's degree in in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Communications or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous professional experience working in a human resource and/or business administration setting.

Intermediate Level:
  • A bachelor's degree in in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Communications or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 1 year of professional experience working in a human resource and/or business administration setting.

Senior Level:
  • A bachelor's degree in in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Communications or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 years of professional experience working in a human resource and/or business administration setting.
  • Experience working in an academic medical human resource capacity.

Principal Professional Level:
  • A bachelor's degree in in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Communications or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Significant experience with HR programming in one of the following functional areas (i.e., talent acquisition, total rewards, learning/development, workforce relations, HRIS).
  • 3 years of professional experience working in a human resource generalist position.
  • 2 years' experience working in an academic medical human resource capacity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 years of professional experience working in a human resource generalist position.
  • 3 years' experience working in an academic medical human resource capacity.
  • Experience in working with accounting and financial data effectively analyzing as well as identifying variances.
  • Experience with the University of Colorado Denver's Human Capital Management (HCM) system.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.
  • Ability to manage financial and accounting information systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial and accounting information to identify as well as correct variances.
  • Ability to administer time collection, employee funding, and payroll.
  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices.
  • Knowledge of professional standards, concepts and practices related to Human Resources.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
  • Ability to take initiative with daily work activities and collaborates to create a positive effect on team performance.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:
  • Entry Professional Level – $46,000 to $49,000
  • Intermediate Professional Level – $50,000 to $53,000
  • Senior Professional Level - $54,000 to $57,000
  • Principal Professional Level - $61,765 to $65,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
