Under general direction of the Facilities Director, incumbent supervises and coordinates all plumbing and HVAC activities in accordance with all hospital and regulatory agencies rules and regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide day-to-day management and direction of the HVAC & Plumbing shop.
  • Schedule and assign work by work order or, in response to emergency calls; establish priorities; estimate time, materials and work force needed for each job, and advise Director accordingly.
  • For planning purposes; receive, check, and complete daily reports to establish job scope; submit data for entry into computer; ensure that all mechanical systems are meeting regulatory standards with respect to maintenance, air exchange, temperature, and humidity; provide cost estimates on major jobs for departmental budgeting purposes; keep running log of work scheduled, in progress, and completed.
  • Provide on the job training or functional guidance, as necessary, to department personnel; assign work according to priority and ability to perform; monitor progress and performance or work; provide instruction and close supervision on safety rules and regulations. Perform staff evaluations on time. Utilize HR policies to hold staff accountable and utilize the prescribed disciplinary steps when appropriate.
  • Coordinate work with other trades and crafts relative to project involvement. Work closely with other hospital units to provide coordination of activities and minimize disruption of hospital operations. Schedule and monitor all vendor related work and project assignments.
  • Distribute tools, fittings, hardware, and other stock items as needed in the shop; reorder stock supplies based on daily consumption and inventory.
  • Maintain and create a detailed inventory of critical spares. Monitor monthly spend on supplies and work within budget to properly maintain all aspects of the mechanical systems of the facility.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area, including equipment used daily. Make periodic inspection of equipment to insure safety and operability of same. Conduct routine rounds of all mechanical spaces. Ensure all corrective and preventive maintenance is done on time and within high standards.
  • May make recommendations to Director relative to changes in materials, process, procedure, technique, service agreements, or selected equipment, as appropriate.
  • Attend all staff meetings and monthly safety training.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and uphold uniform policy.
Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises up to 10 FTE's

Qualifications
Qualifications:

Experience
    • Requires minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.
    • Requires working in a healthcare environment for a minimum of 3 years.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
    • Must be licensed as a journeyman HVAC in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Knowledge and Skills
    • Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
