Job Description

At VERTEX, Industrial Hygiene is more than a job, it's a CAREER full of growth opportunities. Our Industrial Hygienists are involved in a wide variety of projects to ensure that everyone has a safe workplace.

Starting out as an Industrial Hygienist, you will conduct Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessments and inspections for our clients to identify hazardous conditions or materials at their sites. You collect samples from the project site, examine them under a microscope and send them to a lab for testing - and then you provide information for a client report. You may also supervise third party remediation contractors who clean up the impacted area, and you may monitor the air quality and safety while they do their work.

As we expand our traditional industrial hygiene services to include exposure assessments, safety consulting and other occupational health related projects you will have the opportunity to engage in our Lifetime of Learning program. This program will help you develop your skills and advance in the organization by earning advanced degrees and/or industry certifications.

Main responsibilities

• Perform activities related to project monitoring, Asbestos/Lead surveys, IAQ/mold assessments, and other project assignments as appropriate
• Perform air monitoring duties for asbestos abatement activities - from inspection to abatement contractor oversight and project air monitoring
• Analyze laboratory results and engineering data, and support project team to recommend solutions to our clients
• Prepare portions of Asbestos Survey and clearance reports, IAQ/Mold assessments, and other technical assessment reports
• Maintain consistent communication of project progress with the project manager
• Maintain assessment and monitoring equipment
• Prepare Health and Safety Plans/Job Safety Analyses for sites
• Assist with additional projects as we expand our services offerings

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field; comparable work experience considered in lieu of degree
• 2+ years of experience performing Indoor Air Quality Assessments and asbestos project monitoring activities
• Current Massachusetts Asbestos Project Monitor accreditation/license and NIOSH582 certification required
• Knowledge of IH regulations: EPA's NESHAPs /AHERA regulations - MassDLS/MassDEP asbestos regulations
• Proficiency in use of Personal Protective Equipment, including respirators and current fit test
• Ability/willingness for regular regional travel in New England for fieldwork with occasional overnight travel
• Flexibility in working hours to meet client needs
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
• EHS Certification and Medical Monitoring pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER 40 Hour)

Industrial Hygienist with a Massachusetts Asbestos Project Monitor certification receive between $20-$25 per hour and are eligible for overtime.
