About the Role:

Job Summary

The Internship - Level 1 and 2 position provides support to Quest Coaches in the Operational Excellence Department at NGHS. Support opportunities include process improvement and strategic improvement initiatives, project management and coordination of tasks; also opportunities for learning and development in lean methodologies and leadership, change management and coaching skills. Depending on the internship level, the candidate will be involved in a variety of improvement work throughout the organization. This could include tasks ranging from administrative support to co-facilitation of groups in process improvement sessions. This is typically a full-time position (40 hours/week) for an 8 - 12 week period, but hours and internship length can vary in order to meet the needs of the organization or a qualified candidate. Under the direction of Operational Excellence Quest Coaches, the Internship - Level 1 or 2 position will grow a candidate's skillsets in the areas of lean methodologies, operations management, business administration and healthcare leadership.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications:
  • Educational Requirements: Level I = Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, Finance or Healthcare Administration OR, work experience applying lean principles in Engineering or Operations (clinical or non-clinical). Level II = Graduate student pursuing a master's degree OR, Bachelor's degree plus work experience applying lean principles in Engineering or Operations (clinical or non-clinical).
  • Minimum Experience: Previous exposure to Lean/Six Sigma and/or process improvement methodologies.

HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act)

If, in the normal course of my duties and responsibilities, I am required to access protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI) for the purposes of treatment, payment and operations within Northeast Georgia Health System, I will limit such access to only the minimum necessary amount of PHI and EPHI necessary to perform the functions of my job. If access is not required in the normal course of my duties and responsibilities, I will not access PHI or EPHI.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities Level I : Task and Project Work > 70%
  • Manage and organize groups of tasks as assigned by Quest Coaches according to specified time lines.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with staff within Department of Operational Excellence.
  • Manipulate data in Excel and create PowerPoint reports for operational improvement activities and corporate projects.
  • Participate as a member of operational excellence team in team-building, provision of feedback, and general activities.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities Level II: Task and Project Work > 90%
  • Manage assigned projects and tasks according to specified time lines
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with staff within Department of Operational Excellence and NGHS staff interfacing with assigned projects
  • Manipulate data in Excel and create Visual Management and PowerPoint reports for operational improvement activities and corporate projects
  • Participate as a member of operational excellence team in team-building, provision of feedback, and general activities
  • Present results of project work to Quest Coaches and upper-level within NGHS
  • Facilitate team meetings to organize project plans and deliverables
