Mercer is seeking the following position out of the St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis, or New York office:

Investment Consulting Analyst

What can you expect?

  • The Investment Consulting Analyst is part of the client-facing investment team working to develop the strategic asset allocation and investment portfolios for institutional asset pools. This particular role will have a focus on not-for-profit clients (e.g. endowments, foundations, healthcare systems, etc.)
  • The Investment Consulting Analyst function within the client team is to work with the Senior Consultants. They would primarily be responsible for project managing deliverables for both existing and prospective clients.
  • A primary work product will be to support quarterly meetings created with Mercer Proprietary tools as well as Microsoft Office tools.
  • In addition to quarterly meeting materials, the Consulting Analyst will have a large role in 1) developing the strategic asset allocation and 2) selecting and overseeing underlying investments.
  • In support of the Senior Consultants and client relationships, the Consulting Analyst may participate in quarterly meetings and interact with client staff and committee members.
  • The Consulting Analyst will support senior investment consultants in business development efforts as well as white paper development.

What you need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/institution with demonstrated work in business/investment-related courses
  • 2+ years of related investment industry experience
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

We will count on you to:
  • Gather data from various teams within Mercer on capital markets, manager research, and performance reporting
  • As needed, interact with third party investment managers and custodians for pertinent information
  • Evaluate and synthesize key drivers of client portfolio performance given overall capital markets,third party managers' investment styles and total portfolio characteristics
  • Produce written quarterly materials in PowerPoint including both content and formatting
  • Understand client / prospect investment objectives and constraints
  • Work with quantitative models to develop multi-asset portfolios and evaluate them based on standard quantitative risk/return portfolio management metrics
  • Work with third party manager due diligence team to evaluate and select investments to fulfill the asset allocation
  • Monitor performance and business developments of third party managers in client portfolios and notify clients of critical issues in an accurate and timely manner

What makes you stand out?
  • Interest in pursuing a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or MBAdegree
  • Strong, demonstrated interest in capital markets and portfolio construction (not security selection), including the calculation and interpretation of standard risk/return metrics
  • Strong, demonstrated interest in being client-facing and communicating technical (not necessarily financial) information concisely to clients
  • Interest and/or experience in working with institutional clients, particularly not-for-profit
