JOB SUMMARY

Employees in this job perform a variety of janitorial, tasks to maintain clean and safe buildings and grounds.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans and services restrooms.

Sweeps, vacuums, and mops floors and carpets.

Gathers and disposes of rubbish and waste materials.

Scrubs, strips, sanitizes, waxes, and buffs floors using powered machines equipped with rotating brushes.

Polishes furniture, metal work, and chrome using appropriate cleaning and polishing compounds.

Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, mirrors, and fixtures using both step and extension ladders.

Cleans grounds and parking lots of litter, glass, or other debris.

Loads and unloads supplies, and moves heavy furniture and equipment using dollies, handcarts, or power equipment.

Shampoos carpets.

Drive vehicle to run errands for Plant Engineering and Maintenance Department

Initiates suggestions for procedural enhancements

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High School Diploma/GED required.

Experience

No experience required, however 1-2 years of previous janitorial work desired. Must have valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE

Cleaning methods and procedures; knowledge of the materials, supplies and equipment utilized in cleaning activities desired. Occasionally read and understand technical/non-technical information.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

Must be able to:

• Use vacuum cleaners
• Use floor buffers
• Use carpet cleaners
• Use industrial mops
• Use trash compactor
• Use cardboard bailer
• Familiarity with operation, adjustment and troubleshooting requirements of all equipment in group work area as required
• Occasional use of paint and painting tools

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.

Must be able to lift/reach, stand/walk/crouch majority of shift.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Regular office hours are 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. however this position may work different hours.

TRAVEL

No travel is expected for this position.
