Fall 2024:· In-person at the Academic Success Center in the Newton Gresham Library· Maximum: 20 hours per week

Nature & Purpose of Position:

The Jumpstart Success Coach performs duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the TSI/Academic Programs Coordinator in the Academic Success Center. The Jumpstart Success Coach will provide structured and intentional support to students who are enrolled in developmental education courses due to their current TSI status on file. This position will work independently and in team settings to promote college readiness efforts, engagement, and the overall success of this student population. Jumpstart Success Coaches will acquire training during the Spring 2024 semester, and will work 5 hours per week during the Summer 2024 semester. Jumpstart Success Coaches can work up to 20 hours per week during the Fall 2024 semester.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Maintain a caseload of approximately 12 students throughout the Summer 2024 semester, and a caseload of approximately 30-45 students throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.· Provide one-on-one mentoring for students who have a TSI - Not Met status in both Reading/Writing and Math.· Assist with organized events designed for this student population (to include assistance with event planning, providing detailed information to students regarding the event, participation in events, event set-up/take down, etc.)· Attend regular team meetings and trainings.· Represent and support the Academic Success Center's ongoing efforts to promote student success.

· Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and report activities conducted.· Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written and electronic documents.· Ability to communicate orally in person, by telephone, and virtually/online.· Ability to present oneself in an appropriately personable and professional manner to students and staff.· Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation, and relationships with others.· Ability to be both consistent and flexible as circumstances warrant.

Minimum qualifications:

· Currently enrolled at SHSU. Classification: Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Masters, Doctorate.· Demonstrate a growth mindset with the willingness to learn, assess and best support student needs.· Possess exceptional communication skills, including exceptional listening skills. Must also posess exceptional interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.· Strong problem-solving skills, and knowledge of SHSU departments and resources.· Effective time management and self-starter qualities.· Willingness to commit to 15 weeks of designated and consistent working hours during the semester.· Computer skills (familiarity with Office 365 applications, Zoom, Campus Connect(training provided), website navigation)

Preferred Qualifications:

· 3.0 GPA· Have a completed FAFSA on file for the current academic term (reviewed for work study eligibility)· Bilingual skills· Knowledge of SHSU to include familiarity with departments on campus and resources available to students.
