A DAY IN THE LIFE

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for receiving and analyzing environmental samples collected in the field under the direction of the Laboratory Manager. This position is instrumental in performing tasks required to meet the expectations of our clients and the company by efficiently generating defensible data in a timely manner. The following duties are responsibilities of a Laboratory Technician:

  • Receive environmental samples collected from field testing
  • Prepare samples for analysis
  • Control Chain of Custody procedures for collected samples
  • Prepare reagents for lab use and/or shipment
  • Perform gravimetric, titrimetric, and other analytes
  • Calibrate laboratory instruments
  • Determine the volume of samples
  • Interpret and document data obtained from analysis
  • Maintain organized records of sample preparation and analysis
  • Prepare laboratory analysis reports
  • Email/communicate questions, abnormalities and work completed with Project Manager
  • Timely update of all required fields in the necessary laboratory logs
  • Clean laboratory glassware
  • Prepare laboratory equipment kits for us in field tests
  • Maintain clean laboratory areas
  • Assist field testing teams in acquiring and inventorying consumables, chemicals, and parts for instrumentation
  • Occasionally perform analysis on-site, in the field, to provide immediate, accurate results
  • Participate in and lead training for career development, safety and maintaining required certifications
  • Participate in laboratory work groups that develop standard procedures and improvement measures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.

• High School diploma is acceptable where experience and related skills can be demonstrated.

• Must have 2+ years of general laboratory experience required.

• Proficient with Google and Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

• Ability/willingness for occasional overnight and local travel between 10% - 25% of the time.

• Valid Driver's License is required
