Global Communities is seeking a Lactation Program Manager to join the Domestic Programs team in San Diego, California.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for leading activities designed to diversify the perinatal workforce and expand access to lactation services for underserved and underrepresented communities. This position will: organize trainings; m recruit, enroll, and provide coaching and mentoring to aspiring birth workers, including doulas and Certified Lactation Educator candidates; and lead a weekly breastfeeding support group in Southeast San Diego. The position is responsible for ensuring completion of project workplans on time and within the planned budget.



Responsibility Area: Outreach, Enrollment, & Networking

  • Conduct outreach: participate in the development and distribution of promotional materials to engage families and partners in project activities
  • Participate in collaborative meetings with community partners, acting as a positive representative for the program and agency
  • Nurture and maintain positive relationships with existing and new program partners
  • Plan and lead recurring community events, health education and support group activities including facilitation and follow-up in coordination with the Project Director and other team members.


Responsibility Area: Perinatal Workforce Development
  • Coordinate perinatal training logistics (1 per year), including finalizing schedule, training location, supporting travel logistics, and ensuring key topics and benchmarks are covered within curriculum content
  • Work with key partners to ensure trainings are complete within the project timeline
  • Participate in recruitment of doula & lactation educator trainees and document trainee attendance and outcomes
  • Organize and lead weekly group coaching and one-on-one mentoring activities for trainees to achieve certification of trainees according to project plans
  • Support additional training opportunities
  • Document successes of the program



Responsibility Area: Lactation Services Coordination
  • Lead a weekly lactation support group in Southeast San Diego, with peer support from Certified Lactation Educators and clinical support provided by a licensed International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Provide breastfeeding health education and support to families, resulting in improved breastfeeding outcomes for underserved communities
  • Make and document referrals for clinical breastfeeding needs
  • Participate in the hiring and supervision of language diverse CLEs to co-facilitate support breastfeeding groups
  • Participate in the development of tools to document project activities and successes



Responsibility Area: Data Collection and Entry
  • Collect and maintain project data to document project activities and outcomes
  • Ensure the collection of breastfeeding activity data, including training & certification outcomes, -group sign-in sheets, and demographic data
  • Data entry into Excel and Salesforce databases
  • Data cleaning in collaboration with the Project Director to ensure accurate reporting
  • Prepare quantitative and narrative report data to meet funder requirements
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance for all project related data



Other:
  • Assist with special projects, data and reporting, proposal writing, and/or mentoring of other team members as assigned by Supervisor
  • Participate in agency, project, and partner activities and meetings, including all-staff meetings and management trainings
  • Maintain continuing education as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Supervisor or Project Director



POSITION SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must be available to work overtime during peak periods.
  • Must be able to organize and attend in person events and trainings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Socio-cultural experiences comparable to the populations served, along with knowledge and respect of the values and beliefs of African American and/or Black Immigrant women and communities.
  • Specialized training in childbirth, doula, postpartum doula, or lactation education.
  • F luent in English (read, write, speak) is required, second languages are a plus (Somali, Swahili, Haitian Creole, and Spanish are especially desired).
  • Proficiency in computers and use of MS Word and Excel required.
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and manage data.


Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline and a minimum of four years of related work experience or a minimum of eight years of related work experience.
  • Advanced training in lactation, including Certified Lactation Educator or Breastfeeding Specialist credentials.
  • Experience with group implementation
  • A passion for the mission and values of Global Communities.
  • Must be available for occasional travel within California and US.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization.
