This position is critical to ensure wastewater meets the contractual and regulatory requirements for discharge to local waterways and ultimately Lake Michigan 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To meet this goal requires a number of trades, operators and managers working as a coordinated team to maintain the system. This position is one of those required for this team.
Under general supervision of supervisor and/or lead inspects, cleans, adjusts, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on equipment in the Dewatering & Drying Facility and in the Milorganite Storage Facility, such as belt filter press, classification screens, milling equipment, product elevators, storage bins and/or tanks, transporters, wet electrostatic precipitators, dust handling equipment, chemical storage facilities, fuel oil storage facilities and other related components in a safe and efficient manner to produce a saleable product, Milorganite.
Is required to accurately maintain and update records, documents, and manuals including electronic media. Must provide current, timely, accurate, and complete data, for all work assigned. Is required to follow current company/department policy and procedures, is required to fully participate in improvement initiatives, including but not limited to: job plans, workflows, job safety analysis, standard maintenance procedures, preventative maintenance improvement initiatives, 5S activities, use of technology based solutions, condition assessments and reliability initiatives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / JOB DUTIES
Required to follow all applicable safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in performance of assigned duties. Is required to participate in all required safety training activities. Is expected to report any unsafe conditions encountered in performance of duties.
Cleans, repairs, lubricates and maintains belt filter press, screening and milling equipment by disassembling and/or adjusting, vacuuming and replacing parts.
Inspects and cleans conveying equipment.
Adjusts or replaces ancillary parts associated with the repair or replacement of belt filter press media.
Maintains daily logs and records of maintenance activities.
Determines operating efficiencies of screen and other components parts by obtaining samples at various points to maintain peak operating efficiency.
Vacuums and/or sweeps in Dewatering & Drying Facilities and in Milorganite Storage Facilities.
Inspects dust collection bag houses, monitors and replaces bags as needed.
Performs safety checks and inspections of assigned fire extinguishers, first aid kits, fire hydrants, ear protectors, stretchers, blankets, etc.
Paints as needed to properly maintain ESPs (Electo-Static Precipitator) and associated equipment.
Cleans and maintains area of responsibility around dryer house and silos ramps and doorways.
Assists in emergency operations during plant emergencies.
Performs other duties of a similar level and nature as assigned.
High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
Sufficient skills in reading, writing, mechanics, and communications to perform job duties and understand job related materials.
Skills in operation of hand tools and power tools.
Ability to operate various equipment (eg. sweeper).for industrial cleanup of dust spills etc.
Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Communicates effectively via written and oral methods with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and others when necessary
Ability to enter data and do simple searches on existing programs.
Basic skills in computers and data input devices, email, application and office software.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
Ability to work in confined spaces and to wear breathing apparatus for confined entry.
6 months to 1 year of work that required basic mechanical maintenance or operational skills.
