Purpose & Scope:

Develops, implements, and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. Drives product and process changes to reduce cost, inventory, and improve quality and delivery. Implements Lean and Six Sigma strategies in support of continuous improvement culture to increase productivity.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Model safe behavior at all times
  • Support production with all required technical needs.
  • Determine materials required to manufacture, assemble, and test precision products. Determine labor hours to complete each operation of work order and determine inspection points and methodology.
  • Optimize and document all aspects of manufacturing processes utilizing DFMA and PFMEA methodologies.
  • Work with R&D on new products/processes and lead transition of product/processes into production working with Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Ensure acceptable yields, complete documentation, tooling, and training is complete on new product/process before full handoff to production
  • Utilize 6 sigma tools to analyze current and new product/processes ensuring variation is minimized.
  • Drive and support Lean Manufacturing techniques in the shop including process mapping, cellular manufacturing, set-up time reduction, and overall waste reduction.
  • Interact with Manufacturing Engineers, production floor, and suppliers to clarify design intent, technical requirements, and improve process capabilities.
  • Must be able and willing to work extra time as necessary to ensure completion of assigned tasks

Required Skills, Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science or related technical field plus a minimum of 1 year as a Manufacturing/Process Engineer
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • 6 sigma tool usage
  • Ability to read and decipher drawings, procedures, and GD&T
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare procedures and reports
  • Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this position.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

PreferredSkills, Education, and Experience:
  • Aerospace and defense machining and manufacturing requirements (tight tolerance)
  • Green Belt or Black Belt 6 sigma certification
  • Strong understanding of Lean Principles
  • Experience in mechanical/hydraulic systems/bearings
  • Experience in a DoD or military product manufacturing environment
