Purpose and Scope:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager will provide leadership and direction for the Manufacturing Engineering department. The position will oversee and manage engineering resources that support manufacturing operations to meet the goals and objectives of the company. This position is responsible for the department's performance, project schedules, goals, and the manufacturing processes of the areas of responsibility while advocating continuous improvement principles to attain the company's vision of cellular manufacturing within a lean enterprise. The manager will create a culture of process excellence and develop an engineering team that promotes and executes process improvements and cost reductions.

Position Roles and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a staff of Manufacturing Engineers responsible for creating and maintaining processes, manufacturing routers, procedures, and defining machining methods and tooling required for production.
  • Assist management with direct oversight of the manufacturing department's daily operations.
  • Monitor productivity of direct reports and assure efficiency and consistency of work.
  • Establish metrics for manufacturing engineering deliverables to be reported to management.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews/evaluations and development discussions to ensure professional growth.
  • Develop and implement a cross-training plan.
  • Recommend and manage staffing levels, including overtime recommendations.
  • Manage the department budget.
  • Actively engage in generating and implementing manufacturing continuous improvement projects, including Lean, 5S, process/equipment innovation, and other initiatives.
  • Instill problem solving techniques to address issues as they arise.
  • Lead efforts to identify root cause, make appropriate process changes, and implementation of sustainable long term corrective actions.
  • Investigate problems, gather appropriate data, and escalate as appropriate to drive resolution.
  • Maintain workforce skill sets necessary to inspect in process work.
  • Work with design engineering to develop quality processes.
  • Assist Engineering in root cause analysis on process issues and implementation of improvements to prevent recurrence of quality issues and minimize scrap/rework costs.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Responsible for the preparation and documentation of manufacturing methods.
  • Responsible for the design, development, modification, and implementation of equipment and processes to aid in the overall manufacturing process.
  • Ensure proper use of all safety regulations and equipment used in manufacturing.
  • Directly interface with engineering and business development teams to prepare labor and material estimates for proposals.
  • Directly interface with production planning to ensure commitments, schedules, and obligations are met.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:
  • BS degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Three (3) years minimum experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or equivalent role
  • Five (5) years minimum of manager/leadership experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Ability to read and decipher drawings, procedures, and GD&T
  • Strong working knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean tools and methodologies
  • Machining, metal-forming or complex assembly experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Project, Word, Outlook)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Aerospace and/or Defense industry experience
  • Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering degree, Industrial Engineering degree or Material Science degree
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Capital Acquisition experience
  • Project Management training
  • Knowledge in the design of production systems to meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives
  • Experience with machine maintenance methodologies (TPM, PM, AM)
  • Manufacturing footprint optimization and part/product family strategies
  • Working knowledge of 3D solid modeling
  • Tooling documentation/library and tool life management
