Meet the team:

The R&D Mechanical Engineering Characterization Team is responsible for the feasibility and development of next-generation products at Dexcom. We're seeking a cross-functionally disciplined engineer with subject matter expertise across mechanics, materials, and human tissue/device interaction to support characterization and test of novel patch materials and designs. Positioned within the Mechanical Engineering team, this is a high visibility, high impact role in achieving Dexcom's product performance and reliability goals through delivering functional excellence in the research, development, and characterization of technologies/designs & their integration to a product ecosystem.

Where you come in:

  • You will be responsible for the design and development of novel test methods, including any related fixturing and equipment. To support characterization of device performance attributes.
  • You will develop materials testing for medical adhesives and composite material systems that can be applied to characterize product level performance.
  • You will characterize pressure sensitive adhesives to understand their role and performance within our product.
  • In collaboration with both internal and external partners, you will conduct evaluations of products, processes, or new technologies to isolate specific product outcomes through experimental builds, testing and analysis.
  • You will define and execute characterization strategies and test plans to measure overall system level product performance.
  • You will document your findings and present them to cross functional team members.
  • You will develop tests, test plans and equipment to troubleshoot complex problems to isolate functional performance issues.

What makes you successful:
  • You have experience with skin contacting polymers and adhesives for medical applications.
  • You have experience in selecting mechanical and rheological properties of materials for use in composite mechanical systems.
  • You have experience with quantifying and characterizing adhesion through first principles.
  • You have proficiency with analyzing and interpreting material compatibility (e.g. surface energy and polarity, tribology, surface chemistry and topology, bond strength, thermal behavior and degradation analysis )
  • You are proficient in performing statistical analyses to come to data-based conclusions.
  • You thrive in environments where there is ambiguity or uncertainty in product requirements and have a willingness to try and test new ideas, coupled with a track record of success in a fast-paced R&D landscape.
  • You bring a spirit of innovation to challenge the status quo and pursue innovations in technology, product features and business processes.
  • You exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
  • You have excellent communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills.

Travel Required:
  • 5-15%

Experience and Education Requirements:

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience or Master's degree and 0-2 years' equivalent experience

Salary:
$75,200.00 - $125,300.00
