Division Director - Division of Pediatric Cardiology

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is seeking a qualified Division Director for its Division of Pediatric Cardiology. The candidate will be at the (associate) professor level of the clinical educator or tenure track, have an MD/DO, be board-certified/eligible in
Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology, and licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Florida.

Job Description Summary:
The Pediatric Cardiology Division Director is responsible for coordinating the Pediatric Cardiology Division's clinical activities by providing administrative direction in cooperation with the department's and hospital's administration for Pediatric Cardiology. This position is also responsible for the strategic
clinical relationships with physicians across the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Holtz Children's Hospital, as well as those with the nursing staff, pharmacy, laboratories, and technical staff.
The Pediatric Cardiology Division Director oversees the development of clinical/education training content and marketing materials. The Pediatric Cardiology Division Director ensures the compliance of the pediatric subspecialists with all maternal-child health service line rules and regulations regarding patient care, billing documentation and HIPAA, and participates in the development and leadership of quality and safety initiatives and clinical practice improvements. The Pediatric Cardiology Division Director is responsible for the implementation of the Service's component of the Department's and
Hospital's strategic plan and development ofthe school's Centers for Excellence across the inpatient and outpatient programs of the Department of Pediatrics and Holtz Children's Hospital. Key business objectives include establishing the Service as a leader on a local, national, and international level and
assisting in the acquisition ofthe medical, financial, and research resources to achieve this objective.

Reporting Relationship:
In this role, the Pediatric Cardiology Division Director reports to the Chief Executive Officer and to the
Chair/Chief of Service of the Department of Pediatrics.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities (Administrative and Clinical):

Operational Oversight
Responsible for the direction and operation of the Service's functions and associated professional activities in the Department of Pediatrics and at Holtz Children's Hospital and in its outpatient clinic sites including being available for assistance and advice when called upon and assisting in the resolution of
identified problems through existing lines of communication. Responsible for the direction of operation of services provided to patients that may be evaluated for specialized needs and transfer of same.

Administrative, Operational, and Regulatory Assistance and Review
• Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining-subject to review and approval of the
hospital(s)-the administrative and clinical policies related to the activities of this service and such policies as related to the evaluation of Pediatric needs.
• Assist with all relevant federal and state statutes, regulations and administrative instructions,
standards of care, and the accrediting standards of all regulatory agencies.
• Ensure that the Service fulfills service responsibilities in the most cost effective manner and
cooperates in, and complies with, infection control and quality assurance.
• Ensure that HIPAA policies are implemented and followed by all clinical, administrative, and
research staff of this unit.
• Make recommendations to hospital administration regarding the use of hospital personnel, the necessary equipment, and general quality standards of patient care in connection with the
Service and all other pediatric functions.
• Perform and provide specialized care to patients while teaching residents, students, and fellows.
• Oversee the day-to-day operation of pediatric services and ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care, and that the service meets community needs and supports the
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Holtz Children's Hospital.
• Provide the physician leadership of unit practice teams in collaboration with department, nursing, and hospital administration to review practices and implement clinical practice improvements that result in fiscal, patient satisfaction, quality, and/or safety improvements

Performance Evaluation
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of this Service and its integration with other providers in
the maternal-child service line.
Monitoring of Professional Credentials & Teaching Activities
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of this Service and its subspecialists with defined
privileges including maintaining licenses and ensure that training, techniques, and procedures
are up-to-date. Monitor systems for licenses, credentials, and recertification compliance.
• Develop and monitor educational activities which includes instruction of residency and
fellowship training programs.
• Develop medical education programs for those associated with pediatric services.
• Attend annual scientific meetings, seminars, and conferences related to this Service's specialty
and keep abreast of new developments in the field.
• Chair weekly Service meetings to discuss upcoming cases with the multidisciplinary Pediatrics
team.

Public Relations
• Represent the Service in its contact with private and public organizations and institutions.
• Oversee the development of clinical marketing and materials for the Service in coordination with the Office of Communications and Marketing.

Research Oversight
• Prepare research publications to support clinical Service findings.

Assurance of Patient Coverage
• Implement the on-call schedule for the Service to ensure inpatient and outpatient clinical
coverage, and rotation through day, night, weekend, and holiday call coverage.
• Provide in-patient consultations and outpatient clinics based on patient demand.
