Summary:

Transports patients, prepares rooms and readies for turnover, restocks inventory, assists with equipment support. Helps maintain a smooth flow of patient care in Surgical Services and supports the surgical team.

Qualifications:

Education:
Minimum High school diploma or equivalent. Must complete an OR Assistant class with a minimum final score of 80%.
Related Experience
Minimum: N/A
Preferred: Six months experience as a unit assistant in an acute care facility.
Credentials/Licensure:
Minimum Certification or re-certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within one month of hire.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Good oral and written communication skills. Basic knowledge of mathematics and problem solving skills acquired through a combination of education and experience.
Computer Competency
Familiarity with standard desktop and windows based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.
Physical/Mental
Minimum Constant standing, bending, stooping and twisting. Frequent pull/push over 60 lbs. Frequent lifting over 60 lbs. Frequent performance of continuous detailed tasks with frequent interruptions and work re-prioritization. Adequate auditory, visual and tactile senses.

Essential Functions:

Ensures that all principles of safe transportation are met, including appropriate modes and devices.
• Participates in education of ancillary health care providers.
• Participates in room preparation and turnover.
• Verifies with other health care providers that instrument supplies and equipment are available for surgical procedure.
• Organizes and prioritizes work activities to support unit workflow.
• Decontaminates instruments and cleans equipment as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
