The University of Miami is seeking an Outreach Specialist 1 to work at Soffer Clinical Research Center in Miami. The incumbent supports in developing and implementing new and existing public education and outreach programs serving as a liaison to the community. Moreover, he/she performs a wide variety of duties and demonstrates a high level of professionalism and effectiveness.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Supports in the development and implementation of public education and outreach programs.
2. Works with community-based organizations to plan promotional educational and other events targeted towards designing an increased awareness in the community.
3. Aids with the preparation and distribution of public health education and navigation manuals.
4. Develops professional relationships with mental health providers, researchers, and community members.
5. Collaborates with other members of the team on special projects and events.
6. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 3 year of relevant experience

Experience with opioid use disorder, (lived, preferable) or related preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Commitment to the University's core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
  • Knowledgeable and familiar with people who have opioid use disorder preferred.
  • Knowledgeable and familiar with Black/African American populations and local communities preferred.
  • Ability to make decisions and use sound judgment preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, recognize, and solve problems preferred.
  • Maintain research compliance preferred.

Department Specific Functions

1. Responsible for conducting outreach, education, and engagement activities to identify and recruit study participants
2. Responsible for tracking study participants after enrollment and maintaining high rates of retention in research follow-up assessments.
3. Participate in outreach data collection activities.
4. Responsible for engaging in outreach at community and social service agencies, such as food distribution sites, needle and syringe exchange programs, health clinics, hospital emergency departments, and health fairs or other community events.
5. Participate in all required in-person and remote trainings and meetings.
6. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and protocol adherence.
7. Other duties as assigned.
