Join Cenovus' 5-person U.S. legal team, in Dublin, Ohio , and assist in managing a vast array of diverse projects, including the organization's litigation, environmental, corporate, m&a, employment, investigation and compliance functions. The candidate does not need to have experience in all the aforesaid areas, but a willingness to learn new areas of law is required. The ideal candidate be a detail-oriented, well-organized, self-starter who works independently and efficiently with minimum supervision, providing high quality support services, while exercising sound legal and professional judgment. Excellent verbal and written communications are essential. Must be comfortable completing large and small projects in a timely manner in a fast-paced and changing environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. Responsibilities:
  • Supports entire 5-person U.S. legal team
  • Partners with:
    • Internally, entire 5-person U.S. legal team; interacts with Canadian legal team and U.S. business individuals in all departments.
    • Externally, interacts with law firms and vendors
  • This role may have enterprise-wide scope on litigation and compliance matters
  • This role focuses on matters occurring at all U.S. facilities
  • Accountable for procedural aspects of compliance and litigation matters as well as managing miscellaneous communications (letters and emails) and legal projects
  • Spectrum of decision making
  • General problem-solving abilities in addition to a willingness to follow defined practices and processes.
  • Handle confidential information pertaining to company operations and legal issues
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service skills in person, over the phone, and via email
  • Under the supervision of lawyers:
    • Draft, format, and edit correspondence, memos, and legal documents
    • Distribute legal hold communications
    • Manage the preparation and coordination of complex document production
    • Handle the processing departmental expenses
    • Maintain departmental files
    • Review and summarize miscellaneous reports and documents
    • Attend and arrange meetings, taking minutes as necessary
    • Review and process legal invoices for payment
    • Formulate solutions to problems which may arise
    • Conduct legal and factual research though Lexis/Westlaw, websites and other resources
    • Calendar key dates and deadlines
    • Monitor dockets
    • Interview employees and document relevant information
    • Maintain collection and custodian logs
    • Research statutes and regulations in support of legal compliance matters
    • Monitor regulatory developments
Qualifications :
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with litigation, environmental, corporate, m&a, employment, investigation, or compliance functions. The candidate does not need to have experience in all the aforesaid areas, but a willingness to learn new areas of law is required.
