All Student Life Marketing staff will contribute to the creation, implementation, and assessment of various marketing and communications initiatives.

Job Summary

The Social Media Content Creator is a summer role who will strategize, create, and assess social media content for various accounts and platforms within the Office of Student Life. This role works with full-time marketing and communications staff to oversee, post, and monitor the social platforms for the Office of Student Life, Indiana Memorial Union, IU Housing, and more. The ideal candidate will be an innovative creative with robust experience in vertical video (Instagram Reels and TikTok).

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Plans various photo posts, Reels, Stories, and more based on the team's communications calendar as well as additional trending content as necessary.
  • Creates multiple videos to promote various events, offerings, and initiatives from the Office of Student Life during the summer months and prepare content for the upcoming school year.
    Opportunities for strategy, copywriting, and photography may be available based on skillsets.
  • Works closely with various members of the marketing team and professional staff/clients from around the Office of Student Life. Members of Student Life Marketing participate in various meetings, workshops, critiques, and brainstorming sessions as necessary.
  • Develops innovative and creative media content in line with the Office of Student Life's branding efforts (i.e. original text, photos, videos, and news).
  • Uses creativity and artistic techniques to tell a story or provide information in a visual form.
  • Strategizes, monitors, and posts on social media accounts to engage with the IU community regarding the services, promotions, events, and other offerings by using a Content Matrix
  • Uses recording and editing skills to create vertical videos/Reels to promote the Office of Student Life and its departments.
  • Oversees and maintains the accounts on, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and other relevant social media platforms.
  • Creates, maintains, and consults the Communications Calendars for social media content, sharing stories with partners, and planning other promotions.
  • Creates monthly and quarterly social media analytics reports to determine the effectiveness and the direction of future strategies.
  • Works collaboratively with team members, colleagues, and campus partners to implement the most effective and engaging strategies.
  • Other Communications duties as needed.
  • Strategizes various communications for summer and fall campaigns.
  • Writes and edits copy for ad campaigns and print pieces.
  • Photographs events and locations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
Preferred
  • Pursuit of a degree in Marketing, Communications, Media Advertising, Journalism, Digital Media, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • Understanding and extensive experience with various social media accounts, how they are best utilized, and how to strategically engage via these platforms
Preferred
  • Experience managing social media accounts that were not simply personal accounts
SKILLS

Required
  • Familiar with social media trends; knowing when to experiment with new tactics and when not to
  • Familiarity taking quality photographs and photography principles
  • Experience taking pictures and filming/editing videos/Reels (framing, editing, use of sound and text, etc.)
  • Proficiency in CapCut, Premiere Pro, Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Photoshop or similar programs for video editing
  • Portfolio of work with a wide range of creative projects
  • Passion for using social media platforms
  • Familiarity using Microsoft Office programs
  • Fine attention to detail
  • Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others
  • Exceptional decision-making skills and autonomy
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Performs well in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphere
  • Strong sense of curiosity and creativity
  • Motivated individual: strives for ongoing improvement and is passionate about learning

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
